1UP and GameSpy have been many things over the years, as have been those we lost today. In their early days, 1UP was, to many of us, one the first places we fell in love with podcasts, deep editorials and behind-the-curtain video content like the 1UP Show. Similarly, GameSpy offered something totally unique with its biting humor and muscular criticism. Over the years, both came into their own, and as of 2013, both are producing kick-ass, high quality work.
Welcome to GameSpy... Where were the days of Alien vs Predator in mp on GameSpy...

RIP Gamespy. Was unaware they were bought by Ziff Davis, explains the format change while back I suppose. I haven't used Gamespy since the late 2004, around that time I got real heavy into MMO's. It was the only platform available that brought hundreds of thousands of gamers together at the turn of the century. I remember bouncing between my catalogue of racers, shooters, RTS's etc; and having so much fun.

You could scale how popular a title was by seeing the sheer numbers of players in lobbies hosting and joining games. I have fond memories of Gamespy and it was my main source of PC gaming news for 4+ years. Although I have neglected it for the past few years I'm really going to miss Gamespy. I don't know any of the early staff that made Gamespy successful but I salute and wish farewell to them and the Gamespy brand.
