Why don't you go to walmart and get one of their $400 system? Heck, even Best Buy is selling an e-machines for $360 (no rebates required with a $170 instant rebate), it has a Celeron D 352, 512MB DDR2, 120GB HDD, DVD/CD-RW combo, ATI Xpress 200 graphics AND it comes with a 17" CRT monitor.

Look in the Sunday's paper, add section, page 22.

That should be more than enough.
PaRaDoX; that MoBo has an SiS chipset and it doesn't take DDR2. Only DDR.
umm... maybe?

$149.00 refurbished.

Don't know much if anything about the unit, but a buddy if mine got one similar for his Mother so that she could surf and use e-mail.

Simple, but not flexible.
I do want an actuall computer, the reason being is because in our house everyone is fighting over who gets to use it and when, that being said if i build my own computer i wont have to deal with that. For the processor i want to go P4.
Garage Sales.

I have scored a couple of almost fully-functional units in this manner
, I have also found a lot of crap
... I re-build and repair then donate. You could do the same, but donate to yourself.

Also, check with your co-workers, aquaintances and freinds... some have "old computers" sitting in the closet or in the warehouse (got 2 that way).

Put the word out. The downside is that you may be inundated with hardware that is non-functional.... then you gotta make a recycling run.

Athlon 64 is super cheap now, you could go budget with them.
Athlons are way too good for an internet machine !
Get a Pentium 4 @ 2Ghz, that'll be enough...

So, $84 +$15 = $100 for barebone.

$70 for 2.8 P4
$45 for DDR 333
$45 for DVD and CD burner
$25 for keyboard and mouse
$80 for Windows
$40 for HDD

Total $405 + S/H say add another $25 for it.

How about an E-machines with an Athlon 64 3500+ which pretty much is basically that same $405 machine but for only $249.99 And you get a free express upgrade to Vista Premium, shipped to you for FREE. Can't beat that.

This Celeron has a 25x Multi, and 533FSB, But If you OC to 800MHz FSB, I've seen people hit 5.2 GHz, on Air.
Heres the linky:

Just get a Tuniq or Zalman, and some Arctic Silver And have some fun! Also save $15 by buying a Celly not P4!

Spend 115 on the Celeron D above, and get some DDR400 instead.

i know all about the celly D 356, but with the mobo that comes in the barebones kit i dont think it would be worth it cause the mobo isnt very good and i had planned on doing a 356 build but what would be the point if im just using it for surfin the web and not use it with a good mobo and ram combo. Also i pry wont get the P4 2.8 mentioned in the earlier posts i was pry gonna go with a celeron proc from newegg for like 50 bucks idk wich one.
