how good is this mobo?

how good is this cpu compaired to a Q9450. ill even be happy with slightly slower. how well can i OC it? im thinking around 4ghz tops

doesnt matte rimo for gaming i need a cheap solution for a while that i can squeeze a year out of them then give the leftover parts to my step dad to upgrade his crappy dell

oh yeah and whats a good waterblock for it for pretty cheap?

It will be a bit slower. The Phenom IIs can compare to Q9* but the Athlon 2s are not as powerful.
Motherboard is great but i wouldn't go the Athlon route.

thanks i didnt waste my money
now i know ims till going i7 cause ill gladly pay an extra $20 for alot better performance if phenom 2 is on par with Q9xxx

yeah i dont know much aabout AMD but i do know i got a 12 sec super pi with my q9450 @ 3.75 ghz and it had 45 TFlops peak on linx linpack testing ^_^

the i7 920 should get around 70+ TFlops i think same clocks

for gaming that would be a bad idea. better a phenom II X3 720 and a Gigabyte 770 UD3P.

if you HAVE to have that mobo then there is a combo deal with the x3 720

That board is all-around great and with that open box price I'd try to get it before someone else does. The Athlon quad is a margin slower than your CPU, but considering it's for gaming a Phenom II 720 might be a better choice You could probably reach 4ghz on any phenom/athlon II with WC, but the extra cache on the phenoms equate to about 5-10 fps in games.
Honestly m8 that cpu will be more than enough. You should be able to get around 3.8 out of it stable without much fussing about and that board is fine. I've had a few different athlon II's and phenom II's. The last one i benched was an energy efficient 235e X2 and it played mw2 perfectly at stock clocks
(about 60 fps) and in single threaded benchmarks it was better than my tri core phenom II most of the time
proof? http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/...ll%20of%20fame

Perfect chip for a gaming rig and the larger l2 cache almost makes up for any loss.

ok THAT just solved my problems. tri core and a mobo for less than an i7 920= nice. not sure how fast that will stack up to my old q9450 but itt'l handle any games i need it to for a year or two so woot

The 720 is about THE best gaming chip you can buy on the market now.

I have to disagree here. Asus has done me well in the past.

MSI? They screwed me over when i got my first motherboard. Never buying their stuff again.

MSI is so full of fail it should be called FailMSI. Never had such lousy customer support as with MSI.
See that's funny to me because I've never had any reason to call their customer support. The 2 GPU's and 4 mobos that I've had have given me no problems. This is to include the GD70.
Asus has been rock solid for me, no problems at all.... MSI same thing for me.... no issues. I had 3 or 4 Abit boards as well, no issues.... I would jump all over that Asus bd + 955... CPU has unlocked multi (black edition).

Asus has screwed you over??? Huh? You mean you got a doa mobo, or?
I've had nothing but good with Asus, MSI and Abit.... and i've had multiples of all of them.... granted i never bought the cheapest ones either.... i think all bets are off for all companies on the cheapest motherboards....
