iMac G4 PPC is not working at 100%

I have an old iMac G4 with a PPC 700Mhz CPU sitting in my closet that a friend lent me (the ugly old ones with the hemisphere base). I have no use for it so it has been folding for the last month or so (or at least I thought it was).

I installed the right package from the Stanford site and set it to fold ([email protected] configuration says 'Auto-start') for my username. I have shared the [email protected] folder on the Mac so I can monitor with Fahmon. Fahmon sees the Mac, but it's status (little square beside the name) has been yellow for weeks.

The cabinet it's in is rather warm so something is going on, but when I SSH into the Mac and run the 'top' command, I see only 10-15% CPU usage! What gives?

We needz moar PPD!

It appears the old PPC only has the normal client and not the SMP one. You could run multiple instances of the client and try to up the PPD that way. Or you could try adding -smp to a shortcut on the desktop and see what happens but I am not sure it would work.

Is that processor capable of virtualization. If so perhaps a singe instance of Beouwolfs guide could help. Just a thought.

run more instances if possible dont quite know about that on a mac. The intel one is a SMP client that maxes the CPU.
I would try to run more instances but I don't think I can with this version of OS X (10.4.11). In the applications window, [email protected] is listed only once, and I cannot open a second instance because when I try it just opens the first configuration window again (right-click menu is useless)...

I'm not much of a Mac GUI guy so I might be missing something simple. I searched some forums where I found that 'Processor Performace' needs to be set to maximum (or something similar) on PPC iMacs but the 'Processor Performace' setting is no where to be found in this version of OS X.
TTT so someone can possibly help.
