Alright, so I decided I should start up a thread for my upcoming RiG and keep it updated from time to time when I get new components and assemble a little bit further. To be brief, this RiG is going to be used for gaming/programming/OCing/Movies/Web and I think I am going to try folding (at least for a little while). I've been putting off my build for a while, but I have finally set out to do it, and thanks to many great people here on OCN and their advice, it is coming out quite nicely! Note that this is my very first personal build and I need to get absolutely everything (mouse, keyboard, etc.). My ideal budget for this build is no more than 1800$ CAD.

My entire build is in my sig rig, there are some stuff (marked with ???) that I am still unsure of what to get and there are other parts that I already have in my room set up.

I am going to start posting up photos and trying to keep you guys updated, however, this thread (and my build), will most likely be set on hold until I finish my finals
(December 7th - December 18th). Otherwise, I'm just going to be too absorbed by the build that I am not going to end up studying. It is going to especially hard since I a lot of components that I ordered are coming in soon. They are just going to be sitting around my room tormenting me!!

I started this thread now so that I have somewhere to build from later on.

Tally:

I got:
  • Antec 1200 Case
  • Corsair 850HX Power Supply
  • Samsung 2443BW Monitor
  • 2 X Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 6401AALS
  • CREATIVE Sound Blaster Arena USB Gaming Headset
  • Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard
  • 2 X Scythe Slipstream 1900RPM fans
  • 2 X OCZ Freeze (3 gram tubes)
  • Samsung DVD/Burner SH-S223B
  • I7 920 C0
On the way:
  • Asus P6TD Deluxe
  • Razer Salmosa
  • Lamptron FC2 fan controller
  • EVGA 8800 GTS with Twin-Turbos
Still to find and get (or wait until price drops):
  • G.Skill 2000MHZ 3 X 2GB DDR3 RAM
  • Prolimatech Megahalems
  • Radeon HD 5850 or 5870

Those keeners here will have realized that I haven't placed my CPU in one of those categories! Well, that is because I should be striking a a really good deal for an I7 920 C0 this weekend (a great trade, will reveal after its done
). I know that the C0 does not overclock as well as the D0, but this is an offer I am not going to turn down. So I am planning to keep the C0 until the I7 930s come out.

Also for the GPU, I am going to be looking for a cheap substitute card (8800 GT/GTX) while I wait for the prices on the HD 5870s and 5850s to drop (until about my BDay in February).(Info now Updated)
I was thinking about putting up the prices for each component and a total so that other people can see how much it would cost for a similar RiG, dunno if it is worth it though (going through the hassle of finding the prices I paid).

Some Pics are up

Here are the promised pics:

My case, the box it came in was opened, but whatever, it looks like its new. Probably just open box.

The Modular Corsair 850W PSU

The beginning assembly, very early!!!

My netbook acting as my temporary desktop while I wait to build the rest of my build

The above "deal" that I mentioned went through like a breeze. I ended up getting the I7 920 C0 absolutely FREE! Here is the deal: I bought a used I7 975 from OCN that I initially was going to sell to a friend for basically zero profit. I then decided I would post it up on local internet adds to see what I could get. I got a few responses, but there was one that I just could not refuse: 700$ cash + a three week old I7 920 C0. I obviously jumped on it and am damn glad I did (For what I paid, I made a slight profit and got a I7 920 C0 for free). Now the only downside is that I am stuck looking for another I7 975 for my buddy.

I also received some more components that are already set up in the Antec 1200 (reflected in "tally"). Now, however, I am in the big need for my MOBO because my build is not getting anywhere without it. I'd like to start cable managing and finally plugging in wires instead of having every component just isolated in its own little part of the PC.

- Update -
Bought an 8800GTS with aftermarket Twin-Turbos from a fellow OCN member. This will be my temporary GPU while I wait for the prices on the HD 5xxx series to drop (by February).

Huge box from NewEgg just for a keyboard.... + an I7 975 from a fellow OCNer

A *little* progress

Very interested to see how this build is coming along, I'm liking it
Good luck with your C0! I'm really liking mine. Having some issues breaking the 3.8ghz mark, but I'm still quite happy with the clock I've brought it to (in sig). Hopefully you got one of the C0's that can hit the 4.0 mark!

Yea, I'm really hoping I stroke lucky and got one that could go over 4.0! Although, I would be very happy if it would do 3.6 stable on air, that is really all I need. On another note, still waiting for my P6TD Deluxe to get here, and my Lamptron fan controllers just got shipped from NCIX as well

Custom mouse pads arrived today as well, lol. Oh yea, and WOOT!! Uni finals are finished!

There is one thing that worries me though, I read somewhere that the P6TD Deluxe does not support C0. Sounds doubtful and I really hope it is just a rumor.. otherwise
