Installing Intel X-25M G2 SSD what should I do?

So I cant really get a clear picture on the steps I should take to do this. I'm thinking something like this.

1. Install hardware into PC.
2. Do I need to set it to AHCI in bios (I'm not sure what this does and If I even need to do it)? I have another drive, 300gb velociraptor I will be using for storage. Not sure if that will conflict.
3. Boot using the new version firmware disk. Install firmware.
4. Install the OS.

As long as your are installing windows 7 on your ssd, you can pretty much treat it like a normal hdd (7 is very ssd-friendly). Im pretty sure you can flash the firmware whenever you want, but just to be sure, flash it before installing the OS.

The raptor shouldn't conflict but if you want to play it safe, have the ssd plugged into the first available sata slot (ie 0 or 1) and the raptor/any other hdd in the next slot(s).

And AHCI should always be on unless you need to fool the computer into thinking the hdds are connected by IDE cables (old technology).

You should first update the firmware which you said you did, then install windows and do the registry fix which I've posted a few times just look up my previous posts. Then change IDE mode to ahci I forget what option it's under in the bios but just look through the pages and try to find an option set to IDE and select it and change to AHCI. Intel toolbox isn't available for DL right now which let's you manually TRIM and set it on a schedule. Intel will post it for download ASAP, I guess they pulled that dl when they pulled the non working firmware but I assume since the working one is out they will repost the toolbox soon.

I had to do the registry fix before changing it to AHCI, but then again I tried setting it to AHCI after I installed windows, so maybe it will work if you do it before.

Flashing the firmware on any SSD (besides newer OCZ MLCs) wipes the drive completely clean, so it's safer doing it BEFORE you install the OS.

Well I did it after I installed windows 7.. Is there going to be a problem?

Should be fine, guess that proves that you can install it after OS without wiping the drive.

No, that is not what I meant. I like the new firmware. I was jsut wondering is there should be a problem if I installed the Os after the firmware update...

So, say next time there is a firmware update.. What exactly should I do, so I can keep this in mind.

IIRC you can upgrade the FW anytime, and wont loose anything

Only Vertexes (or similar OCZ drives with the Barefoot controller) can be flashed without wiping data; however if you can get a Barefoot-based SSD to work with Vertex firmware, you can still accompish this.

I think you'll find the Intels are the same as the Vertex, its recommended that you back up because there's a chance the flash process will fail - if it completes without issues you don't lose anything. I've flashed both my X25-m and Agility without issues or data loss.
