So here's the case:
  • I have a 500gb Caviar Blue with Vista installed
  • I have a 1TB Caviar Black used as a storage drive
  • I have less than total 400gb of data
I'm looking to reformat and install Windows 7 on the 1TB caviar black. How can I do this?

I was thinking of transferring all the files on the 1TB black to the 500gb drive, then reformatting and installing on the 1TB black. But if I do this, will I still be able to access the files on the 500GB blue while I'm booted on the 1TB? Because at that point, I think both drives will be "master" drives, not slave.

if you transfer the data to the 500GB drive and install 7 with both drives installed you will get a boot loader where you can choose which windows to boot, but if you install 7 with just the 1TB drive you can choose in BIOS which drive to boot from

Whatever you boot from, will turn into your C: drive.

If you install 7 onto the 1TB Black, and boot from it, you'll have no problem accessing the data you moved over to the 500GB Blue.
