We don't have an old school forum do we? If so, sorry for posting this here.

Anyway, I scored a working 486DX 50 today. I popped out the CPU and noticed that the motherboard actually has a Intel Overdrive socket. Anyone remember the upgrade process? I'd like to toss in an Overdrive chip, but I'm thinking I need to replace the BIOS chip as well.

Replace the BIOS - highly unlikely. Re-flash to the latest BIOS - possibly.

Old school motherboards actually have replaceable ROMs.

No, the intel Overdrive was designed to give you a Pentium FPU on a 486 motherboard. They also released an Overdrive for the Pentium motherboards that offered higher clocks. They canceled the line because people would simply buy a new CPU instead of a whole computer.
