The Q9550 is still faster clock-for-clock and will usually overclock higher, but socket 775 is dead, pretty much.

I'd get the AMD CPU, unless you already have a 775 motherboard.

At stock speeds, the i5 is faster than the other 2. Plus a lot of i5 can overclock to 4.0GHz. i5 is on a newer platform (LGA 1156) that will be supported for a while, where as the Q9550 is on LGA 775. LGA 775 won't have anymore hardware upgrades.

i5 is about $200. If you live near a Microcenter, you can get it for $150. Add in a good budget motherboard for about $150, you will be good. You need DDR3 memory though.
