Intel SSD or 2 WD Caviar Blacks in RAID 0?

I know this has been asked a million times before probably, but I am curious to what the opinions are of some of you that have debated this situation. My friend asked me if I would help him pick out a good raid configuration. So first I asked him his budget. He was talking around $150-175 price range. With this I think I could get him a couple WD Caviar 320GB Blue's/Blacks and raid them.

He already has a few 200GB drives in his PC now that I think could be used for stroage and with that thought, what kind of SSD could I get that would perform just as well as those 2 in a RAID 0 Config? Who makes the best SSD drives in that price range and what would be the size of the drive?

I haven't done much research on SSD's really, hence why I am here asking you professionals. Thanks guys, and I won't let the help go unnoticed.

If having the most overall room is important, then a Corsair M64 (64GB). However if performance is more important, then an OCZ Vertex 30GB. That kind of price range is a little tough for a large AND fast ssd

What he said. The only SSD's in that price range are either junk, or too small for everyday use on a desktop.

Go with the RAID array, or save a little longer..

Oops, I realized I forgot to say one thing: ...so my vote goes for the Caviar Blacks!
IMO, grab two 640 Blacks and shortstroke them.

The best performance would be a Vertex or similar drive, just used for OS.

If he needs/wants more than 30GB though, he would be best looking for 2 1TB Samsung F3s, providing he has an onboard controller. RAIDed & short-stroked they provide the best performance & value of any current HDDs.

If he has to buy a new mobo or controller then the SSD is the only way to get any kind of performance as the mechanical path will be over budget by a long way.
