Reuters speculates Intel is set to acquire NVIDIA. The speculation arose when NVIDIA’s shares rose 8% to $30.62 on the NASDAQ. Approximately 20 million shares were traded according to Reuters. Intel representatives declined to comment while NVIDIA representatives were unavailable. Bill Lefkowitz, options strategist, vFinance Investments believes Intel will make the announcement tonight.

We'll see...

There was no need for Intel to do so. Only reason I can imagine is that nVidia feels the need to partner up.

Well Intel HAS been wanting to offer some competitive GPU's...

True.

We'll see.

Even that take over might run into trouble (they are after all the #1 (Intel) and the #3 (nVidia) graphic chip makers on the market - total, not enthusiast only)

Intel already makes more GPU's than both ATI and Nvidia combined but they are way subpar to the competition and are only onboard solutions.

I remember Nvidia stating that AMD buying up ATI was a good thing for them (maybe only a bluff!).
Time to but NVIDIA stock for a quick buck because Intel will pay much more than the street stock price per share.

i didnt mean they have to from a technical standpoint... more a responce to amd's move, and i agree that its a better deal for nvidia than intel. probably more politics and antics for intel, and a sweet partner for nvidia (who correct me if im wrong, was a buddy of amd's till lately) and is probably feeling slightly left out in the cold

i think these moves are just craptastic it would be nice if saw the lead engineers from ati and nvidia left the companys joined forces and started another brand of gpu makers.. i really cant see any of this being good for the consumer and i really dont like the ideas of a gpu/cpu all in one chip either which is where this is likely to lead us..

Agreed.
Competition is good for the consumer.
Prices go up with monopolies.
Hopefully it is not true.

Yup, the good old Vodoo days, playing NFS3, starcraft, quake2, who cared at that time about these aquisitions?

Still, if nVidia doesn't partner with Intel they won't have an easy time resisting both ATI+AMD and Intel as competition for chipset and VID cars. They may start some Aigea-like physics card, but it really seems the GPU days are numbered.

I'm just hoping the GMAs get better. But then again, the GMA3000 already has unified shaders and SM4.

I don't think I'm gonna play oblivion on any one of those GMA things any time this year... or the next year... or in the near future

So... what? AMD bought ATI... but AMD is a smaller company... Intel has the big bucks. I'm sure they could afford that

Its like one of those makeout parties, you know? Everyone has a partner, GMC has Chevy, AMD has ATI, but Nvidia and Intel are standing there thinking "Do we have to?"

Wouldnt be a smart move.. Biggest CPU buying 2nd biggest GPU company? hmm.. Besides which, Intel doesnt have the pocket cash to completely pay for Nvidia.

That's what debt is for

I'm sure they'll get some long-term debt to buy Nvidia .. if they do
