Intel vs. AMD? INTEL WINS IN PRICE

694 Views 10 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Pao
Here's my two systems that I could possibly get, all same components but mobo / cpu

And, If i get the e8500, I'll Overclock it to 4.0 gh/z all the time pretty much, as it's almost always stable at that

If I got the Phenom, i would oc to 3.6-7 gh/z, but since I'm using this computer for 80% gaming, i think the dual Intel would be better. =-)

AMD - http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...Number=8171854

INTEL - http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=10860466

suggestions GREATLY appreciated. BTW, I already have a gtx 260 core 216 super clocked, so I'm all set for vid cards =-)

Just so you know. For the AMD build, you picked a AM3 mobo which uses DDR3 and you picked DDR2 ram and an AM2 cpu.

You can use an AM3 cpu on an AM2/AM2+ mobo but not the other way around. Switch the mobo to a DDR2 one, or get a Phenom II X3 720 BE and some DDR3 ram.

THe X3 720 is better than the E8500, but I personally like Intel better. Although the AM3 socket has a future and the 775 is done. So either get i7 or AM3 imo.
yeah if you go amd go am3. No reason not to now. But I would reccomend i7.
It will be about $500 for mobo+cpu+ram if u shop around and buy cheap.
The AMD would perform very close to the e8400 and will perform better in newer games as they are starting to take advantage of more cores. Either go i7 or go home on Intel.
you can't use that amd processor on that board. it doesn't support ddr3.

get the phenom 2 720be triple core and it will eat up the intel c2d and i7 in games:

then get this board:

also, going to ddr3 doesn't benefit you that much in almost everything since it only gives you 2-5% in performance increase, so stick with ddr2 and get this board:

and there's your price and performance winner!!

cheers

e8500+ud3p=322.98 "minus MIR its 302.98" vs 720BE+ud4=259.98 errrr ill go with the 720BE or go with 940BE in the future but before that time comes newer cpu will be out
and you just saved 63/43 going amd and you can use that for your next mobo/ram or cpu or cpu/mobo/ram my suggestion is read up on some amd or stick with intel where your heart is at "its obvious" lol title the components that you pick for amd ermm yeah... Good luck...

i already have this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130136

i see it works with phenom x3, but will it do as well as the gigabyte?

Remember, the cheaper the better, and I'm not exactly rich lol

btw, my heart is on performance, not intel. In fact, i own an AMD right now, LOL
think its AWESOME!

The X3 720BE will outperform the E8500.

That MSI mobo will be more then enough as well. Since the 720BE has an unlocked multiplier, your maximum overclock won't be motherboard limited.

Since you already have it, that's $140 saved in the AMD department.
