Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN for N Wifi?

4582 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bigal1542
Hey everyone,

I got a new router this past week, and it has wireless N. My laptop has an Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN. For some reason in the settings, I can't set it to be doing N wireless. Keep in mind that I am a complete noob here for networking. Is my card even capable for N wireless? Is there a way to see if I am connected to it? Only reason I ask is because the router is dual band and has 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHz and I have read that 5 GHz is better if you can connect to it (which I can). Is 5 GHz really that much better?

I attached a screenshot to help explain the problem.

Thanks in advance!

What drivers do you have installed?
Did you grab the latest ones from Intel's site? I have the same card, and I can do N fine.

My driver is from 1/19/2011 version 13.5.0.6

Are those the newest?

Also, are your settings the same in device manager? Because I can connect to the 5 GHz network with no problems, but for some reason it just isn't showing up as an option.
What is your sync speed?
Keep in mind the N options are above where you are listing wireless mode.

No, I apparently am using the Microsoft Windows Drivers supplied by Windows 7. No idea why.

I have more options then you have however. I would recommend uninstalling via the device manager, and if it asks to uninstall the driver, click that. Then Reboot.

I see that, so even if the mode isn't set to have N in it, it will? And how do I check speed?

Sounds good, I will give that a shot.

EDIT: I did what you thought of, and all of the options of the same. What options do you have that I don't?
