OCZ

Intel

the price between the two are about the same, 240 bucks. but which one should i go with, i know the intel one has 80gb while the ocz only has 60 and the GEN2 has a better random write/read, but the OCZ Vertex has a much higher writing speed and it's currently supported to do Raid 0 WITH TRIM. that is a big factor for me consider i'm considering to get another SSD later on this year for Raid 0 configuration.

so i guess my question is
will intel release TRIM support later on to acompany the gen2 in raid 0,
and which one of the two should i get. if there is a better alternative please don't hesitate.

WIndows 7 supports TRIM already with X25-M drives.

I say go with the X25-M, that write speed represented by intel is the consistent rate but it can write up to 200mb/s on random writes (i.e. unraring small files, installations, etc.)

Intel released a TRIM driver already and then took it off of their site to do more work on it, they are supposed to release it.. well.. now, end of november, but I haven't gotten my X25-M in the mail yet so I haven't looked if it is on their site now or not.

Edit: Hmm, just looked on their site and it says Download not available, must not be up yet.
You need to think about a raid controller that supports trim before you'll have a trimming raid0, you can manually trim any SSD raid0 with tony-trim. You prolly wont notice much between the two but the Intel wins on paper.
raid controller? is that the onboard raid? or a separate pci expansion card.
i don't think trim will apply in RAID-0

i'd recommend the intel drive

that's the thing. ocz already has an utility(garbage collection) that acts like Trim for raid 0 support while intel is still struggling to re-release a working firmware

The intel is still faster in real-world applications though, and in random write tests.

I would go with Intel. Also Tony claims that Tony-Trim work with all SSD's and even Raid 0. There a possible issues with Raid 5 and 6.
the one on newegg for 215 is gen 2 with TRIM support right?

any one knows if that price is there for the stay or will they jack up the price when they get restocked

There's a chance if they do, if you contact a CSR in text chat and kiss ass and tell them how much you love super-awesome newegg and how much of a great customer you are, and how sad you were because you missed the deal, they may give you the discount back. Take a screenshot just in case.

Anyways, I got one before they sold out
