UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
We have a club for every other chip just about but not Xeons. They seem to be decently popular with most people on here, so why no club? I suppose this could be the start of it! If you have a Xeon and love/hate it post and tell everyone why.

Me me me! lol

Dual Xeon E5405 @ 2.00GHz (2x quad-cores)

I can't give you a CPU-Z screenshot of my server though... the one in the signature...

Yeah, Kvjavs and myself were going to make this group, but I am glad somebody else made it because we are obviously too lazy.

I'll validate my chip this week.

Believe they are binned higher then your typical i7 processor and are mainly for servers/workstations, but basically the same everything. TDP is lower though, my quads at 80W instead of the 130W from the i7 line (920/30).

You might be able to overclock it higher but every chip is random.

Higher binned ( the chips are capable of a higher speed at a lower voltage)
Generally better OCing, less heat produced.

More options available in the product lineup. And you need a Xeon variant to run a multi-socket / multi-processor system.

Server CPU noob question: what exactly are these cpu's used for? I notice a few are paired up with nice gpus, are they better than i7 for gaming? Genuine curiosity here, I know nothing about server/workstation cpus.

I looked into getting a Xeon when I was picking up my Q9550 so I can probably help you with this.

The Xeon chips generally have desktop counterparts, so for most chips in the Intel range, you can have your Core iX and your Xeon variant. The chips are pretty much the same as far as stock speeds go but the Xeons are usually binned to be better chips and often have lower TDP's. The downside is they cost more than their desktop counterparts.

I've been waiting for someone to make this thread.
Add me in!

I'm at work at the moment so I'll upload a picture when I get off. The X3440 is a fantastic chip even at stock.

Adding also that the max threshold for most CPUs are between 60-75*C. The Xeon I have, pretty sure the others are the same too, has a max temp of 99*C according to Intel.
