I was wondering whats Intel's policy when a cpu goes defective. It has been a few months since i purchased a cpu for my rendering rig. Both my motherboard and cpu died a few days ago. Asus is offering me refund since the motherboard is not in their stock and most likely it won't be available again.

In this case even if Intel replaces my Cpu with a new one i won't have a motherboard to use. So does anyone know if Intel can also offer same refund option ? I purchased my cpu at January 2017 together with my motherboard so it is not even 1 year old yet.

I have seen a few threads and some people were reporting that Intel can indeed offer full refund for the first year and then a reduced retail price if the unit is purchased more than a year ago.

Can someone enlighten me about this ?
