I don't understand how it did this, but I am very glad it did! Today I switched from my NZXT Apollo (worst airflow case on the market) to the CM 690 II Advanced. Not only did I notice a 7 degree decrease in CPU temp, but my PC is almost silent now when playing games. Also, my GPU performs much better.

Before, my GPU struggled to play Crysis at High settings. Now with this brand new CM case, I can play at Very High settings with little to no stuttering. Amazing!

Is it really possible that that case had such bad airflow that it affected my GPU?

yes......overheating and throttling itself
...have you ever set a custom fan curve for your GPU?

you really should

It sounds like it was overheating a little perhaps.
Did you clean out the GPU heatsink?

You'd be amazed what dust can do to temps.

Custom fan curve? I really don't know what that is, sorry. I'm pretty inexperienced with PC's.

fan curve: have you overclocked your 5770 yet?
download MSI afterburner, go to options and tick set custom fan curve
that'll fix any temperature issues

I usually do 1% of fan speed to 1*C change on my 470

Cleaning out: use compressed air and let it roar
or take off the shroud on the 5770, unscrew heatsink reapply TIM and check that the fan is clean without dust

Nope. I'm pretty scared to OC it. If something goes wrong, I can't afford another card on the measly allowance my parents give me.

very well......download MSI AB
and follow the instructions

make sure you also set MSI AB to run on boot

IIRC asus does allow overclocking and will warranty you if you kill it, just don't mention it and nobody's wiser

I used to have an NZXT Apollo
I won it in a raffle at a LAN party something like 6 years ago. I loved it at the time but knowing what I do now, I hate the thing
