Investing in Antec Three Hundred (300), good choice?

1051 Views 20 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  graphicsman
Shall I go for an Antec Three Hundred? What else is good in that price ratio?

Slightly out of my price range at the moment, also having to buy the fans aswell, Seeing as how it doesn't come fully equipped with fans.

I'm building a mid-range PC over the next year, slowly upgrading this piece of **** PC of mine.

Spec: (Seriously I've typed this out like 6 times in different forums)

Case: Antec 300 (?) Asus TA-M11(?)
Mobo: EVGA 750iFTW
CPU: intel E8400
GPU(s): 2x XFX 9600GT XXX
RAM: OCZ Reaper - 4GB - 1066MHz
PSU: WinPower 750W

Mid range, will be used to play HL2 based games, CoD4, R6V2, and anything else with similar required specifications.

Buying it all with pocket money, being the age which I am.

With the lighting through the HDD fans.

Heard good things about that case, I'm actually about to use it in a build for a friend of mine.
It's a solid case, just don't buy it expecting tons of room. Depending on the mobo's layout, and video card length, you may run into some clearance issues. Other than that, it's a great case for a simple rig like mine.
great case but DO NOT get the psu. all win power psu's suck and you would be better off with a corsair or similar quality psu.

copy/paste would be much easier.

do yourself a favor and get a corsair.

as far as the 300, it seems to be the best bang for the buck. I looked over a few other cases that same size, and for the money, you can't go wrong with a 300.

Can't really do much about the PSU cause I'm already using it, I may invest in a better one along the way.

Thanks for your comments. Keep it coming!

Hah, room. I'm squeezing my 9600GT into a case 45cm long. Anything along the lines of improvment from this is amazing for me.

Yeah I know, but the other forums are using HTML, and I usually lay it out all nice. To be honest I hate BBcode. But what the heck, who cares.

the three hundred is a VERY solid case. it even has good cable management - i've been able to tuck away a HUGE number of wires from my PSU out of sight.

The reason why people are suggesting upgrading the PSU is probably due to worries that if the crap PSU fails, it 'might' and I do mean 'might' take some of your components with it.

Would be a sad thing to invest in nice quality parts, only to have them be possibly damaged by a sub-par PSU.

On-topic though, I love the Antec cases. I'd actually like to use the 300 for the build I'm making for my mother, but I may have to actually use the crappy Dell case she has ATM.

If it were me, I'd scrap the 750i (I had one) and get the ud3p, and a gtx250/260/4870, after selling your current card. And I wouldn't think twice about it.

Imma upgrade to SLI, and then sell them and upgrade to a 260, because by next year they will be cheap as hell. Inevitable.
Edit:Then again, 9600's will be even cheaper. Viscious cycle.

Antec 300 is a great budget case for what it offers. Obviously it is going to be limiting in size especially when you are putting those larger GPU cards. Definitely worth investing I would say though.
I own one and love it personally

It will fit my 9800GTX, so someone has a comparison. It's tight though, maybe 0.25" left from the HDD cage and the card.

Agreed, out of the box the cable management is pretty respectable! Although with a few strategic holes cut, it's even better

Anyone got this with blue LED's shining on the front? Just want to see what it'll look like when I get some nice fans going.

Edit: Also, anyone found the best price for this? I'm in the UK and best I can find is around £51 off amazon.

shame you're not in the U.S. - microcenter has it for 45 dollars.

i really like the fact that the intake has a big filter. it's very effective, but i have to clean it once a week to keep up the airflow. i personally went with unlit fans, as the PC is in the same room in which i sleep. LED fans + all-night folding sessions = insomnia

Bought one for the folks when I built their computer. I had the chance to compare it to a bunch of other cases. It's basically an Antec 900 without the window. It's very well built, quiet, and has plenty of fans to keep things cool. If you're on a budget, buy it.
