So it's $519 for the cheapest iPad2 model (16GB / CAD) or I could get really nice video card for the same price...

I already own an iPhone 3GS and I love iBooks on it, so I would probably use an iPad2 as a PDF viewer for the most part.. but it seems rather expensive for just a book viewer..

At the same time I may also need to upgrade my
A) power supply
B) monitors to 1920x1080
if I go with a GTX580.. And that may run my bill up to the $800+ range..

Which one would you recommend?

Basically you have $519 to blow and you want to know what to blow it on?

If you game, I say get the GTX580.

"GTX580 / PSU / Monitor" plan is much more practical imo.

Well you have the first gen IPad...there's no much difference between the 1st and the 2nd gen...however there's a huge difference between 9800 and GTX 580...sooooooo hands down if you game go for 580

I'd say 580 is overkill

1: 1900x1200 24" ~$225
2: HD6950 2GB ~$250
3: 650-800W PSU ~80-$125

What i'd do instead for ~$600

But if you like browsing/reading from the couch with the TV on the iPad would probably suit you nicely. I just think that going from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200 was most noticeable upgrade i ever did.

If you're a computer guy you'll get bored of the iPad. You'll experience graphics in games with a GTX 580 that'll blow your mind!!! The iPad wont even come close to the visual fun you'll experience with the GTX 580.

1. You know asking that hear what 90% of the people are going to say. 2. the GPU would be the best upgrade. I own the first Ipad and it is great but besides toilet reading and the occasional road trip my kids get much more use out of it then me.

Wait on second thought my kids get the most out of my Gaming PC as well (due to me working to pay for all this crap)lol
