Yes, the 4850x2 will perform quite a bit better, but it is a dual gpu card.

The 4850X2 2GB is quite a bit faster but is also quite a bit more expensive.
4870 1GB = $170 AR
4850X2 2GB = $290
As you can see in this example at your current resolution the 4850X2 produces a massive 31 more FPS in COD waw.

Agreed the 4850x2 will be faster than a single 4870, think crossfire 4850s..on a single card.
