in gta 4 just now my card was hitting 70C and im kinda concerned about it. Is 70C too hot for a card that has been baked or is it fine to run at normal temps direct from nvidia?
in medal of honor i forgot to max the fan and i hit 89C for like 2 minutes before i yanked the plug out of the wall. it still runs fine, do you think i damaged it?Originally Posted by Starbomba;13108831
70c is fine for a card in full load. i'd worry if it hits 90c tho
well when you're as poor as i am you tend to take extra care of your things.Originally Posted by Cyph3r;13108864
Why is everyone being stupidly conservative? 70c is absolutely fine. 90c is fine. 100c+ is not fine.
You have not damaged it. But pulling the power out like that is a bad idea. especially seems you had no reason too ¬__¬
XFX says that 89C is just an average temp for a G80 8800 card and you shouldnt be bothered to change fan settings with those temps.I dont know whether the same applies to G92 cards.
When your cards have a 95c temp limit, being scared at 90c isn't conservative at all.Originally Posted by Cyph3r

with the fan maxed idle is anywhere from 39C to 47C but average is 47C PCB is usually between 29C-46C. i used arctic silver ceramic(all i have right now)Originally Posted by Coolwaters;13108914
whats ur idle and ambient temp?
also u might want to redo the TIM or get a better one.
yeah but i heard baked cards are more pron to failure. i guess not lolOriginally Posted by ACHILEE5;13108919
From what I just read, 105c is the max temps for the 8800GT![]()
pulling the plug does damage?Originally Posted by Cyph3r;13108923
I understand that, but seriously 70c is nowhere near the worry-zone of GPU temps. You're 100% fine upto 105c, i'd start to worry at 100c and try to get the temps down, but youre nowhere near that.
yanking the power out randomly would do more damage than 90c would.
"yanked the plug out of the wall" Is extra care? Your fair more likely to damage something by doing that compared to just closing the game and letting it cool on its own.Originally Posted by philhalo66;13108896

in my defense i didn't know pulling the plug would cause damage.Originally Posted by Willhemmens;13108974

Anyway 90'c is fine for a 8800GT. Too far past 100 wouldn't be so fine.
I'm sure you could run an 8800GT at 110'c for years without causing damage caused by the heat.
