in gta 4 just now my card was hitting 70C and im kinda concerned about it. Is 70C too hot for a card that has been baked or is it fine to run at normal temps direct from nvidia?

70c is fine for a card in full load (gaming/furmark/boinc). i'd worry if it hits 90c tho

Why is everyone being stupidly conservative? 70c is absolutely fine. 90c is fine. 100c+ is not fine.

You have not damaged it. But pulling the power out like that is a bad idea. especially seems you had no reason too ¬__¬

well when you're as poor as i am you tend to take extra care of your things.

I understand that, but seriously 70c is nowhere near the worry-zone of GPU temps. You're 100% fine upto 105c, i'd start to worry at 100c and try to get the temps down, but youre nowhere near that.

yanking the power out randomly would do more damage than 90c would.

When your cards have a 95c temp limit, being scared at 90c isn't conservative at all.
But yea, i do agree that GPUs can stand way higher temps, and shouldn't be to worry.

with the fan maxed idle is anywhere from 39C to 47C but average is 47C PCB is usually between 29C-46C. i used arctic silver ceramic(all i have right now)

"yanked the plug out of the wall" Is extra care? Your fair more likely to damage something by doing that compared to just closing the game and letting it cool on its own.

Anyway 90'c is fine for a 8800GT. Too far past 100 wouldn't be so fine.

I'm sure you could run an 8800GT at 110'c for years without causing damage caused by the heat.

in my defense i didn't know pulling the plug would cause damage.

as a matter of fact i was always told that it wont damage it at all.

Haha, so what you thought wouldn't damage it, is more likely to damage it, and what you thought WOULD damage it, was completely fine. ;P well now you know eh?

It'll die real soon @ 70C, then you'll have to rebake. You need to keep temps down to avoid solder from cracking up again.
