Is an E6420 worth it?

Here is my question kids! I know that the E6xxx series can OC a fair bit. However is it worth it to pick one up for 45$ just to play with (maybe set up a folding rig with it). Main question, is a year old or so E6420 worth to buy second hand for 45$?

That's a pretty decent price. I still have my E6320 on folding duty. I have for almost 2 years now, running like a champ at 3.5Ghz still.

Yeah, like above fairly sure you could clock easily to 3ghz+ and it pretty much becomes an E8400 in disguise

For that price? I say yes. You can't get a new CPU for that cheap that is that good.

That's a great price considering that E2180s still sell for that price. I would buy it just to play with. It should fold pretty well if you put a sick OC on it and set up linux VMware.

SHWEET! Thanks guys! The guy said he has has it running 100% stable for a year as a personal machine with NO +VCORE at 3.2ghz, so im actually pretty damned excited! Thanks all of you for the input. Updates on OC later this week! +1 for all yall for ultra fast response!
I had a E6420 the clocked like a beast. Got it up to 3.6ghz stable on a few different boards. I wish I woulda kept it.........
On mine I had, it'll do about 3.2Ghz on stock voltage, but it takes 1.46v to run at 3.5Ghz. Anything more then that requires at least 1.52v, which I'm not willing to do on air.
The other E6320 I had would do 3Ghz on stock, and 3.6Ghz on 1.5.

None the less, they are still great chips.

the 6 series is replaced by the 7 and 8 series. so i don't think the 6 series is any good. but good overclockers

could be true, but for $45 bucks, I doubt there will be any of the newer series had.
