I've been looking for a game, and people online and offline keep recommending me Crysis because it looks awesome. Well, my question is, is the game fun at all or is it just a pretty benchmark?
At first I bought it because of the "Ooh Shiny!" appeal, but after playing realised it was quite entertaining.
Just hopping on a .50 cal and mowing down palms is awesome, or strength punching punching enemies in the face.
I found that the plot was actually quite decent. It has some innovative ideas and good physics, the Zero-Gravity level is awesome!
It can't be that expensive now so just buy it!
I will say though, on the hardest difficulty it's about an 8 hour game, so the time is what you make of it. Don't play it straight, go wherever you want however you wanna get there. Ive played the game 4 times all differently as it's non-linear to a point.
All the best mate.
As for good plot and play-time, Half-Life 2 + Episode 1 and 2 + Portal has it for me. (Come one Half-Life 2 Ep3 and Portal 2, be developed already!)
I enjoyed Crysis.. .and just played through it for the first time about a month ago. Granted, I did enjoy it better pre-aliens.. but it was still a fun game.
I find myself wanting to access my nanosuit in L4D...
I found it fun for a very short while, and then it quickly dulled. It's too uber macho for my tastes and smacks a little bit of a 14 year-old's wet dream for their future. Once I'd completed it I sold it, the whole experience lasting about a week. The graphics are fantastic and the multiplayer would save the replayability value if it wasn't for the multitudinous idiots and cheats online. Maybe get Warhead for Crysis Wars, which I hear is a much better and updated version of the multiplayer element.
I also think it is really fun, again for the non linearity. You can play this game any way you want, and you really feel macho in the nanosuit. Also, the incredible graphics add to the experience for me. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, so I can't comment on it.
The problem with Crysis Wars that everyone can use stealth and hide in the bushes all day long ...
Also Character movement/interaction is a bit weird escpescially if your used to precision controls such as CSS.
I enjoyed it. I have played all the way through 3-4 times.
Whenever I play now (maybe once a month) I usually have the cheats enabled to just have some fun running around shooting and killing.
Never played online so I don't know how that is. I have heard there are many cheaters online.
I really don't like it. I personally like tactical shooters, and occasionally COD. Crysis looks good, but the gameplay is just boring. You shoot at bulletproof Koreans. Ak-47 can shoot through trees but apparently the flesh of a Korean soldier is just too dense to penetrate. Sure you can play it any way you want, but in the end you just have to kill them. I usually play cs 1.6 as there are no games that can match it's gameplay so to me, graphics is not as important as gameplay. Get the demo and see if you like it.

However, the gameplay lacked in my opinion (it was a bit clunky) and the story was just above average. I agree with a poster above that it's just a bit too manly macho 14year old wet dream for my taste. Kinda like Master Chief / Halo but with far less personality. On a lighter note, I started off loving the game; it would occasionally dull, only to be revitalized by twists in the plot. Overall, I would give it a 80 / 100, it is above average (75) but just too cliched and clunky to get above an 80.
EDIT: Just to address a point that many others bring up. I did not really find any sort of non-linearity. I went through on the hardest difficulty the first time and spent most of my time regenerating my nanosuit so I could sneak up on someone else and go back into hiding. On the hardest difficulty, anything except for cloak was almost worthless in terms of killing the bad guys.
