Generally no. Copying/downloading any dvd is usually a copywrite violation unless it's from a pay service.

well my dvd is scratched beyond repair, so if i download it, really im just backing it up arent i ?

Illegal. Only the copy that you physically have [I'm assuming you have the DVD] is legal and it doesn't transfer any right or privilege to download a copy online.

just do it and when the police come to areast you just say you did it for back purposes and keep the original disc as proof

However No if you did own it but then download it of filesharing that is most definately ILLEGAL.

In the US, it's legal to backup your DVDs BUT, you can't decrypt them. Basicly they say you can, but you can't because doing it is illegal.<br />

Fun fact: You can a better chance of dieing from extrenel death then getting sued by the RIAA
