well it's totally up to you. the 512mb version is a lot better than the 256mb version... it's hard to get ahold of and it can compete pretty well w/ the new ATI 1900XTX

but then again... would it be better to save your money and get a DX10 card later this year...

ultimately it's your call

Yes, it IS really better. The only downside is the giant hole in your wallet where 700 bucks used to live. I would listen to ol' dude up there and wait for a dx-10 card to come out.

No, he said EVGA offered him an upgrade, where he would pay the difference between the 256 and 512, which is $150.

I'd say yes, that sounds a good deal

I do think that the 512 version is worth an extra 150 over the 256mb version... especially if you can actually find it... but then again you'd have to have the 150. to begin with... lol... wanna send it to me?

The 512MB GTX pretty much kills everything but ATi's new 1900... and it's clocked at 1700 for the memory (holy crap). If it's worth the $150 to you, definently go for it, especialy if you don't have plans for SLi. DX-10 or not, that'll handle games very well for a long time.

Problem is, they probably will come more than 90 after he purchased the card. How long have you had the card? If it was before January 1, you probably will be out of 90 days before the new nVidia.
I say go for it.

actually the 7800gtx 512 can compete w/ the new 1900xtx. i would say they are very close... some games the 512 wins and in others the xtx is the clear winner... but they are about half and half... or at least close.

That's why I said it kills everything but the 1900 series.
