I was planning on upgrading my CPU soon to the X4 955 C3 for longevity's sake, but the price on the 555 is very tempting. Also, the chance of an unlock makes the CPU even more attractive. I will be getting a system overhaul in 2 years time, so will the CPU last? I use my comp mainly for music, photo editing, gaming, mutli-tasking, and so forth. I was considering the X3 720 as well, but I want a C3 CPU for the raw overclocking ability.

So... is it a better idea to save some money and go with the 555?

Depends if you are willing to take a chance on unlocking the 555. I've seen quite a few people not able to unlock one. You'd be kicking yourself in the future if you got stuck with a dual core. Go for the 955 if you plan on keeping it 2 years until your next upgrade. Games are starting to support multiple cores...just look at BF:BC2.

Might as well add that a 4.0GHz dually is plenty for gaming. Heck, anything over 3.6 for that matter.

Heck yeah! I've been raving over the 555 ever since I learned you could turn it into a 965 with unlocking the cores.

This will definitely be my next build
Best value out there!
