OK so the past two days I've been working on OC'ing my sig rig, using this guide:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...uide-p67a.html

So far not impressed with my chip. Maybe I got the turd of the sheet here I dunno....

To get 45x "stable", it's taken me 1.39v Vcore, 1.08v QPI/Vtt. With LLC enabled. I did manage to get 7 hours of P95 out of those settings overnight, temps in the 60-61C range. So I left it run while I went to work, and came home to BSOD and 0x101. Grrrrr. So it survived at least 7hrs, but not 16hrs. Oh and it idles around 36-38C. Which I thought seemed kinda hot for being under an XSPC Rasa 240 kit.

Any lesser voltages than above and it fails within 5 minutes of Prime 95. Same thing with the above voltages without LLC enabled. Literally within 5 minutes P95 gives me BSOD and 0x101. Funny thing is, I'll run LinX for 10 minutes or so at lower voltages just fine. Temps at 64-66C. But then 2 minutes of P95 and BSOD.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm new to this and quite possibly I'm missing something? Seems like a lot of voltage and a lot of heat for a relatively MILD 4.5ghz.

Batch # L102B486, if that matters. Searched and didn't find any particulars with that batch

Have you stressed it at stock?

What is your ram running at and what voltage?

Have you tried removing two sticks and seeing if maybe you have a weak IMC or something?

You're the first person I've seen not even get 4.5Ghz stable.

What bios version are you using?

You shouldn't need PPL overvoltage for x45, if you do thats probably the worst chip I've ever seen.

Didn't do a full blown overnight stress, but yes I've run LinX on it for 10 minutes or so to check temps, which were in the low to mid 50s IIRC.

Ram is 2x4GB, so removing two is not an option. Running at 1600, 9-9-9-24t on 1.5v, as advertised.

Bios is F2, I believe.

And yeah...I thought it was a turd myself. Enabling PPL Overvoltage seems to have helped for whatever reason (don't understand that setting really). I've got the voltage down to 1.37v Vcore, 1.05v QPI/Vtt, and it held up to 10 minutes or so of LinX and an hour or so of P95.

Will run P95 overnight and report how she goes when I get in from work tomorrow. Would be about an 18 hour run. My hope was to get it stable at 48x as my daily driver, but now I'm thinking I'd settle for 46 or 47x. Really would like to keep the voltage below 1.4v just to be on the conservative side.

I might add that when I bought my parts I forgot the AS5, so I had to use the TIM that came with the Rasa. I'm sure it's not stellar. I ordered some AS5 so when it gets here I'll reseat and see if it helps the temps some.

Ok......
What's the difference between PLL Override, and PPL Overvoltage?
I'm almost 100% sure there's NOTHING called PPL overvoltage, and that''s just a typo that went viral....Because on my board it's called Internal PLL Overvoltage, not PPL overvoltage...

I think I remember how that started.
Some guide on hardOCP spelled it PPL, even though it's PLL in the BIOS, and now a bunch of people call it PPL...

Ouch 1.39v for 4.5? That sounds very high to me.

I've not got much experience with that board, but it does seem that you've got a bit of a crappy chip there

I enabled PLL Overvoltage, as was recommended and started bringing the voltage down just to see if I could make it work on less. As of this morning when I left the house, it was 7.5 hours stable on P95 at 1.37v Vcc/1.05v QPI/Vtt. Max temps were 64-67C

I left it run and will check when I get home. That would make it about a 16 hour run if successful

Voltages are still on the higher end of the spectrum for 45x I'd say, but better than before.

Not at the PC now to check, but I want to say that CPU-Z was showing it at 1.361v when I checked this morning.

Lummer - I just received my 2500K and will be OC'ing it soon. I found this guide some months back and have held on to it, because SB will OC different than what I've done over the last 7 years. Maybe it will help you too. I have NOT read it all the way through, just saw some stuff in it that I hadn't seen before and thought it would be a good reference doc. Lots of good docs on OCN as well.
