could someone take a look at my rig and give me an idea if my system is underpowered for a gtx550 ti (will sli in future)

Note: planning on purchasing corsair 750w psu next week should I bother?

The 550 is underpowered for your system. Get a 560ti. Or a 6950.
i think you should be ok but you might be pushing it a little bit. If you are planning on picking up a 750w then get 2 550ti s lol
Corsair TX450 is enough for a single GPU setup, even a 580.

Grab a 6870 or GTX560TI
ty all for imput
Your current PSU is fine for any single GPU card you want (a 580 might be pushing it, might not). And your system is more than sufficient to game with a higher end card. No reason to buy a budget card if you can buy a higher end card now.

i would rather pick up the 6950 and unlock it to the 6970
Youre PSU needs to be changed.
Great little CPU though, I would be looking at a 5870, 1GB 6950 or 560Ti.
if I pull psu and 550 ti from list I have approx $250 not enough for what I would like to see... but I am open to suggestions... prefer nvidia though
You can get a good 600W or so PSU for $50-$65.

yeah... then that leaves around 200 for a card...
this one is going to son in ca lol

looks like a "budget"budget card it is lol

ty all again for quick responses
You can get a ballin' GPU for $200.
I see 1GB 6950's for $219.
Here's one for $214 w/ rebate.

Edit:
That with a nice 600W PSU would rock diggity!

You have the monitor, with a setup like this ^ you would be in for a real stellar gaming experience.
If not there are other good GPU's around or less then $200 for GPU's that would also make good options.
You don't NEED a 600w PSU for something as power easy as a 6950. You could EASILY run a GTX570 or HD6970 off that PSU you have now.

Ignore the PSU guys saying your PSU needs changed, they clearly don't understand power draw.

Spend your money on a better card. 6950 2GB, 6970, GTX570, GTX560...all good cards, all will work FLAWLESSLY with your current PSU and the rest of your system.

No it doesn't. The Corsair 450 watt will power through anything up to a GTX580.

Well It may power more then I think but all the way up to a 580?
My 570 at minimum needs 600W/550W.

Must be one hell of a 450W!

No it doesn't. Your 570 needs a GENERIC JUNK 600w PSU. The Corsair 450w PSU has more power than a junk 600w does. Of course, I'm talking to somebody who has a mediocre 600w PSU anyway, so you clearly don't understand what a quality PSU is capable of.
so what you are saying is... go for the a better card than the 550 and drop the psu till I am ready to sli?

He's saying that power supply will be fine for everything except for a GTX 580 and a 6990. Get whatever card you want but when you go to SLI you will probably need a new power supply.

What I'm saying is definitely buy the better card. You have absolutely NO reason to upgrade the PSU until you go dual GPU (crossfire or SLI). Your current PSU will handle just about any single GPU card on the market (I personally wouldn't trust a 480 and 580 on it, but anything else would be fine).

EDIT:
And obviously the dual GPU cards are out of the question. HD6990, GTX590, 5970, 4870x2, GTX295, etc....
