the name says it all is the gtx 580 worth the extra money over the gtx 570. Does it have the same issues as the gtx 570 reference card. How is the performance of a standard gtx580 vs say the gtx 570 twin frozr III.

Alot of 570's can OC to about 580 speeds. Are you looking for single card only! I was in your boat in feb and went 560ti SLI instead. Is about 25-30% faster than 580. But I dont think its worth the money for a single 580. You can get a killer deal on a 570 from this site. People selling em all the time.

At your resolution, a 570 would be able to handle everything AND can OC to be faster than a stock GTX 580.

I have a GTX 580 3GB but still only run @1080p. I want to max every game regardless of how much I don't need it, that's just my thought though.

GTX580 does not suffer from any issues..

GTX580 has 1.5GB if VRAM (vs 1.2GB on GTX570) which comes handy in the latest titles (like Crysis 2 w/ DX11 and High Res Textures patched up)..

GTX580 has 384bit memory interface (vs 320bit on GTX570)

GTX580 has 48 ROP's (vs 40 on GTX570) and 512 shaders (vs 480 on GTX570)..

So yes a GTX580 is a better and more torture resistant card than a reference GTX570..

Performance wise there's a ~15% difference between a stock GTX580 and 570..

CHEERS..

You mention the Twin Frozr III which is a non-reference GTX 570. I've got mines OCed to 910 core (up from 770 core Factory OC, which is up from 725 core stock speed).

I'm on a 1080p setup and a single Twin Frozr III at factory OC is good enough for me... and i can OC a ton so that helps too.

Aren't a 480 and a 570 fairly close in performance? If that's still true, don't overlook finding a killer deal on a 480.

i might end up going with the twin frozr III 570 if i can ever find one. I will end up getting one of the 600 series next year anyways. So i might is well just deal with the 570. Hell i bet i get almost max on skyrim and decent on battlefield 3 anyways. I am only running 1080 so i am sure i can do pretty well with a gtx 570. Man this is an expensive hobby....

If you're going to get a 600 series next year, why upgrade now? spend that upgrade money on an SSD or faster RAM, etc. (or take out your girl on a nice date)

Ahh sorry, i get it now. Although the 480 takes more power right? I'm not sure if a 480 OCs as well as a Twin Frozr III (i dont say a reference 570 cuz it's a gamble with those VRMs)

if you can get one for the right price they are the best. I got mine for 300 dollars. So it was totally worth it in my case. I max out every single game out there. I can even max out metro 2033, and still get 60FPS like 80% of the time.
