Alright so I now have 3 monitors and invested in 2 Neoflex LCD stands so that I can set them up in portrait mode surrounding my new 26 inch asus monitor. I don't want to run surround but I do have SLI enabled. The problem is how the nvidia control panel handles the different options for "3d performance".

So when I first booted up with 3 monitors plugged in, I got display on my main monitor, and my spare 22 inch monitor. Okay, normal. Set it to portrait mode, I go to set up multiple displays and checked the box for my third monitor and got a pop up about SLI and 2 monitors only, blah blah. I'm like okay, fine. I can live with disabling SLI when I want to use all 3 monitors. But this is the annoying part, nvidia control panel can barely differentiate between what it shows and what it actually does.

For example, depending on which monitors are enabled, if I click "disable SLI", all 3 monitors plugged into the DVI ports light up, indicating that they will begin to display output. Sure, sounds exactly like what I want. I click apply, wait for it to take its sweet time, I only get output on one monitor, and sometimes its random, and sometimes it will be on one of the flipped monitors in landscape mode and I have to take my time navigating it.

Okay so I start over. I click maximize 3d performance just to see if its smart enough to re enable my 2 normal monitors. Nope, of course not. The control panel will highlight the AOC and Asus monitors as if its going to activate them but it doesn't, it randomly picks one based on no actual empirical evidence and outputs BUT the control panel will switch to "Activate all displays" when I had actually wanted "maximize 3d performance". If I just want to disable SLI, it will sometimes highlight all 3 monitors or just the one thats already outputting and enable them all in the normal landscape orientation(thus making me have to reconfigured again for the 10th time)or simply leave one monitor enabled.

All I want to ****ing do is make so that when SLI is disabled, the control panel somehow knows to set the 2 side monitors to portrait and leave the middle one alone. When maximize 3d performance is enabled, I want it to only display on the single Asus monitor, or on the Asus monitor and spare 22 inch AOC in portrait mode.

Anyone know how to do this or is it even possible?

See if this helps. It won't automatically do the job for you but you can have different profiles that you can switch between easily and even set keyboard shortcuts to switch between them.

I feel your pain man.. been trying to get it to do the same damn thing!

Ended up buying a 3rd video card to connect my 2 extra displays.. and now i can leave it on sli permanently.

I'm finding out that this has led to new problems though.. long story.. *#@$% nvidia

Just noting that unless you run surround, you can not run 3 monitors on two SLI-enabled cards.

If you want to run all the 3D applications on the center monitor and power two extra monitors, you need a third card or disable SLI.
You can not escape it.
And which of the two monitors is active, that really depends on which of them the cards get a signal first.

ATI have issues with that as well when running CFX and without eyefinity.

Also, the third card would have to be a different one than the ones you are currently running in SLI, and it has to at least support physx.

ATI pretty much wins hands down in the multimonitor department. Why nvidia only supports two monitors per card (multi-gpu cards aside) is beyond me.

What? why? wth?
No.
The third card can be the cheapest you can get which support two monitors.
It can even be a cheap ass 5450 if you are using windows 7, or any card you like.
It doesn't have to be different or support physx.

If you are talking about this:

I like that silly quote and that you follow blindly after that site like a sheep to the slaughter house.

I had an AMD 4830 powering two monitors with a couple of 470s powering my main monitor before surround was officially out.
I'm sure the the fact that the 4830 is not capable for physx, made half of that statement false.

Later I got a 470 to power those monitors until the surround was working with 3-way SLI. I'm sure the fact that its the same GPU made the second half of that statement false.

Also, the fact that for ages the slizone site had the "fact" that quad-sli and surround is not possible at tall, nor surround was possible for a long time after it was, made that site completely out of date for ages.

So nice of you to quote the slizone site, which is irrelevant, and not listening to people with actual experience.

P.S
Quad-SLI and surround is "not working" according to the drivers notes ever since surround came out. For some reason, its working perfectly. Imagine that.
