Im looking for a monitor to replace this old 17" crt that is threatening to blow up in my face <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/tongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick out tounge caps"><br><br>
I was looking at some 1440x900 monitors, is 900 pixels enough one way? i run my old crt at 1152x864 , along with all my games. I will spend up to £200, but i wont even bother if it is gonan be horrible and ghosty. I realise tft has come a long way since my friend bought his, but mine better not come like his is. Trails = <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Frown"><br><br>
will i need like 4-2ms for gaming? is 500:1 contrast good enough? What happens to non-WS games? they dont stretch do they? that would be terrible.<br><br>
So many questions! thanks for any helps!

</div>Since you live in UK I won't be able to provide any links because I don't know too many UK sites but HannsG, BenQ, and Acer all make nice monitors that arn't so expensive. <br />
<br />
A good monitor won't be ghosty if it has low ms, 8ms is fine but if you can tell the difference then get a one thats 2ms or something, some people can't tell the difference so it doesn't matter lol. <br />
<br />
500:1 is average and alot of cheap monitors these days have 700:1 and higher. And for the non-WS games the sides will either be blacked out or stretched. But alot of games do support WS so you'll be fine <img src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" />

My BenQ 20.1" WS monitor with 8ms response time works great, and I got it for like $250 USD, so I would think that would be below 200 pounds.

This look good to anyone? <a href="http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=3W6N&CategorySelectedId=11109&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11109,42940000,44640000&InMerch=1" target="_blank">-Linky-</a><br />
<br />
The only thing that puts me off is the 500:1 ratio, and maybe a sharper response time. something similar would be cool though.

I'd avoid that iiyama. See if you can find a good deal on a Samsung, some fo the best LCD panels available. If not, Hanns G, Acer, and Sceptre (sometimes) make great monitors for affordable prices.

</div>Yeah, I have it. It was a great upgrade from an older 19" 1280/1024 Dell.

Hey Double Helix,<br />
<br />
Take note of my system specs and you`ll see a Hanns G widescreen. I`ve now had it for about 2 months, and it`s been nothing but awesome. With the 5ms response time and DVI it`s a winner for gaming, cheap or otherwise. No dead pixels and plenty of options. I got it from NewEgg for $182, but it could be even cheaper now. The one nitpick thing about it is the non-adjustable base, although it will tilt slightly. The other side of that is that it is sturdy and can`t easily be knocked over.

The HW191D looks cool, but its listed as 8ms some places and 5ms other places. <a href="http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?catid=276&prodid=MO-017-OK" target="_blank">-Linky-</a> et <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&tag=overclockdotnet-20&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2FHanns-LCD-Silver-Black-DVI%2Fdp%2FB000GYHS6Y%2Fsr%3D1-8%2Fqid%3D1160223803%2Fref%3Dsr_1_8%2F026-2893608-3153210%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Delectronics" target="_blank">-Linky-</a> I dunno if this means one is grey to grey, and one is white to black or whatever? its still pretty fast i guess. Does ity have a glossy or matte finish do you know?<br><br>
The Hanns G is very similar to the Belinea:<br><br><a href="http://www.hannsg.com/EU/EN/Images/Products/HW191DP/HW191DP_specs_simplified_v3.0.pdf" target="_blank">Hanns G</a><br><a href="http://www.belinea.com/Products/TFT_19/product_moni_tft.jsp?node=8&artnr=111932" target="_blank">Belinea</a><br><br>
But i know the belinea has a glossy film, which im not too keen on.<br><br>
This samsung looks tatsy too: <a href="http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?catid=276&prodid=MO-049-SA" target="_blank">~Linky~</a> 4ms! but only 500:1 contrast ratio. will that look bad?

If you plan on gaming alot using an LCD then you want to look for anything 8ms and under as far as color/contrast id stick with atleast 700:1 for gaming!
