Hello,

I have an opportunity to buy this: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.2-15-late-2011-unibody-thunderbolt-specs.html for $800 (oh, it's the 4GB RAM model). Is it a good deal? I will be using it for Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, Dreamweaver CC, Filezilla and native programs like Garageband. Everyone in my office uses a Mac except me. I have an old Dell Latitude Core 2 Duo that I use and it is really showing its age.

They will not buy me a Mac. So instead of raking out the cash to buy a brand new one, I looked on Craigslist. I know, I have to be careful on Craigslist, but I am going to go check it out before I purchase it. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that everything is good to go. Is that machine still good, even though it is almost 4 years old?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It will be much faster than what you have now - or at least it should be. The architecture of this CPU is far more efficient than Core2 CPUs (Sandy Bridge), and thus it's much faster. It's also a quad core with Hyper Threading. The hard drive will probably be a bit slow at 5400 RPM, but I guess that's almost a standard for laptops. You might be able to manually upgrade to a good solid state drive though.

All in all, if you can get one in very good condition for $800, then I think it would probably be a very good deal, especially considering what you have now. hehe

However, you could build a computer that's even faster than this Mac for $800 or less, and it could be a Hackintosh (but I don't know how to build a Hackintosh so you would have to ask for help with that). Of course, it wouldn't be as portable as the MacBook!

Thanks! Yeah, I am looking for portability, so I can bring it back and forth from work. I would like to be able to mess with Garageband on the go, too. That is really one thing that I miss about owning a Mac. I know there are other programs out there for music, but that is the one that I have had to most fun with, plus I have all of the Jam Packs.
