Hey guys. First post here

anyway, im gonna do my own build in a few months, and i need some help. Im getting the ASUS P6T mobo, which is a LGA 1366, and a friend suggested that i get Sunbeam Core-Contact cpu cooler. only problem is that it says they are only compatible with sockets 754 / 939 / 940 / AM2 / LGA775. I dont see mine listed, but there are a few reviews saying that they replaced the brackets to 1366 brackets and it works.

if it matters, im getting the i7 920 cpu.

Thanks!

He wont need the bracket, the asus p6t has mounting holes for 775 brackets too.
thanks for the responses. the problem is that some ppl said DO NOT GET! NOT 1366 COMPATIBLE! but then others said they bought 1366 brackets for $10 and works fine. is it really worth it to buy this and new brackets? or just get a compatible cpu cooler to begin with? heres an ex:

I just switched from the sunbeam core contact freezer to mugen2, and found a 1 degree Celsius drop. I'm sure it'll be better once I overclock, and even better when a second fan is added.
Test was done using the same fan on both.

Exactly right. ASUS released the P6T with both 1366 and 775 mounting for the board. But it is still recommended to get a 1366 mount:

ASUS P6T - Not the Deluxe Version but equally impressive...

Also, the P6T features both an LGA 775 and 1366 mounting hole pattern that allows current LGA 775 liquid cooling users to retain their setup. We still recommend that air cooler users utilize an LGA 1366 setup (native or mount kit update) although you could get by with a LGA 775 design in a pinch.

If you're for sure getting the asus p6t, don't worry about it, it has mounting holes on the motherboard for socket 775 and 1366. Just make sure its a good cooler, I'm pretty sure sunbeam is pretty good and someone on here has a 920 at 4 ghz with the Sunbeam.
what you think of your cooler tom? have you overclocked at all? how are temps?

The Megahalems is top of the line.

If you have the money, I would suggest getting it and a nice 38mm fan to compliment it.

Yeah like tator said, Mega is a beast. Easy to mount too. If you have sensitive ears, get a 120 by 38mm fan like a panaflo. I myself have a scythe kaze 3000 hooked to a controller and it's fine for me even at low speeds theres no clicking like some people have said. AT full it's pretty loud but the mega is such a beast it dosent need to be full blast.
What do you guys think if i got the megahalems with an antec 120 tri cool? btw, my friend has the noctua NH-U12p and he said that gets better results than the megahalem..FAIL

so you wouldnt recommend a 120mm fan? That is also what my good friend recommended, the 120mm tri cool, because im getting an antec 902 (or 900) either way.

I'd say get something like the Delta AFB1212SH-PWM

but would the tri cool still be ok? I am already ordering one to add an extra to the case. I forgot what CFM means =\\

It's a measurement of Air Flow. I doubt it, the Tri-Cools won't do well on the Megahalems
so what CFM would you suggest for the megahalems?

It's not about CFM, it's about Static Pressure.

See, when you put a fan on Radiator (a heatsink is a type of radiator) the Airflow (CFM) is reduced drastically based on how dense the fins on the Radiator is.

Certain fan designs have higher Static Pressure (Pa or mmH20), and the higher Static Pressure of a fan, means the less the CFM will drop on a Radiator, and the faster/higher amount of Air moving through a Radiator, the faster it will dissipate heat.

Again, I'd say get something like the Delta AFB1212SH-PWM.

Not to be rude, but this fan only has one review, plus this fan is deactivated on newegg anymore. Is there anyway you can find a fan that you recommend that is on newegg?

Newegg just deactivated it when it went out of stock. It'll probably come back. Either way, it has huge static pressure.

Better than any other fan I've seen.
Panaflo
Papst
FM121
S-Flex G
Gentle Typhoon 13

Ordered from Best to Worst, though the worst in this group (GT13) is an amazing fan.
