Does anyone know if this is strong enough to cut through steel side panels to make fan holes?

Should be, as long as you use the proper cutting disc. I have a cordless Dremel that I think maxes at 22,000 25,000 RPMs and I was able to cut cable management holes in my old Antec 900.

Yeah, I picked up a http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-200-1-15-Two-Speed-Rotary/dp/B002BAHF8W]Dremel 200[/URL] from walmart for 40 bucks to slice through my steel phantom side panel. It's quite an experience. Be prepared for horrid noise, gouts of sparks and the dremel to get ridiculously hot.

As the above poster said, opt for reinforced wheels. I went through 3 of those doing my side panel mod, so I cant even imagine how many emery discs that would eat up.

And always wear eye protection! Mask as well if possible for any metal particles floating in the air.
