Looks fine from that height,
, Looks like your HS was a tightened down a little unevenly.

I can see a little bleed on the lower part of the chip.

Nice board too.

That is not enough. Take rubbing alcohol and remove the tim. Take your brand of thermal paste. put a dot in the middle(little more then pea size), then take credit card and spread it with a thin even coat.

I am going to disagree. I think the application is just about perfect.

I recommend you do a small line over the internal die. It gives you a more even spread, with adequate pressure*

VERY THIN LINE! Forgot to mention that
, but to comment on your TIM, it looks like the perfect amount. Just uneven

No. Don't do that. His current TIM application is almost perfect.

Ah, no. You shouldn't have to spread the compound, the HS will do it for you. that looks good to me. the die are in the center, so there is nothing to cool in the corners anyways. Look at the base of a stock Intel cooler.

I always follow the AS5 method. Small dab about the size of an uncooked grain of rice in the middle of the IHS. The correct amount is not too much (spilling over the sides) and not too little (not having the edges of the circle meet the edges of the IHS)

just use a pea size'd dot in the middle or even a line or an X , as long as it is over the core.

notice what spreading does, it creates air bubbles.
I prefer to use the x method myself, I get better idle and load temps.
Do a google search for videos on "how thermal compound spreads"

I would not use that cleaner. Go get 90 Proof rubbing alcohol.

90 proof is 45%
I think he means 90%

edit: you want to use a cleaner that evaporates and leaves nothing behind. I wuld have to see the ingredients of the cleaner you used. As stated, just go down to your local CVS/Walgreens etc. and buy some isopropyl.

This. I've always found it is far more difficult to apply too little than too much. My results have always been better w/ using just a very small dab in the middle, & letting the hs squish it out.

The "x" method is best because it spreads the TIM equally, but how you put it the is fine
