Is X58 being discontinued?!

Scan UK used to list all the extreme motherboards (Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME, Foxconn BloodRage, EVGA X58 Classified) however they do not list any of those any more and they are disappearing by the day.

Are the current X58 motherboards being discontinued and replaced with SATA/USB 3 versions?

Are other retailers doing the same?

Quite a bit of X58 boards have been phased out off newegg too, I don't think they are getting phased out though, because Gigabyte is making a USB 3.0 SATA 6GB/s X58 board.

Not getting phased out but my guess is Scan is cutting back on what X58 boards they stock. You'll probably find the boards that don't sell so well are the one's disapearing. Likely is that a lot of potential X58 sales are being lost due to people getting P55 instead cause lets face it for most enthusiasts X58 offers no advantages over P55

I do plan on going X58 although I'm going to wait and see what kind of price Intel are asking for the i9, if it's over £500 ($750) then I will just get an i7-930.

I need to save up first as I currently have £5 on my debit card after purchasing the E5300 and HD 5770.

Once I have £1000 for a new build I'm sure SATA-12 will be out -.-
Sorry to revive this thread however numerous sites are now removing X58 motherboards from their listings?

There MUST be some sort of update coming in the near future for X58 surely? SATA-III built into the chipset (X58 Revision 2 maybe).

Motherboard manufacturers and making revisions of there boards and adding SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0, thats it, X58 is still X58.

I actually wondered about this possibly happening back when the i5 buzz-mill was running. It's reasonable to think, if 1156 begins to dominate the market, that many manuf.'s wont see much need to invest in 1366.

Ofc 1366 isn't going to disappear, but simply go the way of "workstation" / "power user" platforms. Basically, the mainstream partners are going to put the most of their money into building whatever is the "mainstream" items at that moment. Wether that platform is 1156 or 1366 or both is up to the consumer.

I certainly hope it doesn't go too far in that direction though. I rather like 1366, & it would suck to see all the "enthusiast" parts simply dry up in the shadow. To me, 1156, as a whole platform, is so similar to 775 that it's like 'what's the point?'.
No just newer revisions plus the i9 will also be on X58, so its not going to be discontinued.
I'm quite sure they're not being phased out. The producers are just taking a break with them and will probaply continue on them sooner or later in the end of Q1 or Q2 2010 when i9 is released.
So if you want a x58 board, then wait some time as they will fall in price and buy one before they climb up again.
I heard gigabyte's was letting their stuff sell down or pulling them until the new usb3 / sata 6Gb/s boards they have, come out.

Well, this just backs up my point exactly:

Gigabyte GA-EX58A-UD7 ... Watercooling support out the box all for £250. Not bad!

That silly feature doesn't even matter, you can still do 3 way SLI/Crossfire with the 1st, 3rd, and 4th slot.

It's just an unused slot, nothing more.

except the 4th(and maybe the 3rd) will probably be x8 instead of x16.

this is newegg's explanation
2 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x16 (PCIEX16_1/PCIEX16_2)
2 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8_1/PCIEX8_2)
Note: The PCIEX8_1 and PCIEX8_2 slots share bandwidth with the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots espectively. When PCIEX8_1 is populated with an expansion card, the PCIEX16_1 slot will operate at up to x8 mode; when PCIEX8_2 is populated with an expansion card, the PC IEX16_2 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.

hmm? x58 doesn't run at x16 @4 unless you have a separate PCI-e controller such as a NF200 or lucid hydra. x16/x16/x8 or x16/x8/x8 is normal for a majority of the x58 motherboards.

I can't see any close up pictures of the motherboard. I would think the 1st and 3rd slot is pure x16.

In 3 way sli/xfire the description says x16/x8/x8.

- 10x USB 2.0
- 2x USB 3.0/2.0

If USB 3.0 will be backward compatible, why so many USB 2.0 and only 2x USB 3.0? That would be my question. Phase out the 2's and have more 3's?

No doubt. Just wondering.
