Issues with 270.51 (beta)??

1248 Views 21 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Defoler
Has anyone tried the beta 270.51 Nvidia driver yet? I installed it on my GTX260 SLI combo and crashed BulletStorm, froze it up solid. I had to reboot to clear it.

I backed off to the 266.58 driver that I had previously and it worked fine. I'd like to try it on my other gaming rig that has an SLI of GTX480's for the 3D support for BS but not if it crashes my rig.

Don't have Bulletstorm but everything is running good so far.
Well it is a beta driver....
it has been great for me.

Yeah, ordinarily I wait for the full driver to be released but I got a little giddy when I saw that 267.24 had 3D support for BS and thought "what the h~~l, I'll give it a try"

I do like the bonus of adding the 3D Vision driver updates with the main driver. It makes it a lot easier to upgrade now.

Ya, sometimes it just randomly crashes while browsing
So, are you running 266.58 then?
So far so good.

Not sure, but you have a SLi setup, was there a need for some kind of patch for sli?
The newer drivers have some issues with SLi, some people experience it some don't... I myself had to roll back as 270.51 were worthless in my setup. As far as patches... theres the 266 evga patch #31 for that driver set, and Update 7 Profiles for the last set of beta driver 2xx.74 which work well for me.

For flicker issues, from what I have gathered, the drivers are not correctly adjusting the monitor hz, and are using there own interpolation which of course, the monitor most likely does not do... and presto... flicker... as far as crashes and bsod's you may need to check you oc software, and use something like afterburner 2.2.0 beta... I hear that helps. Last couple updates have been very poor for SLi in general... I guess Nvidia doesn't care about that small aspect of their business.
I had clock speed issues with 271.51 getting stuck on 2d clocks in games. So rolled back to 267.26 and all is well.
Great no issues here it even run BC2 at 95-98% gpu usage.
Sorry to be getting back so late but thanks for all the replies!

I'll wait for the driver to be released in the non-beta version. I'm probably getting all excited for nothing anyway

I've just played Dragon Age II for 2 hours, with SLI and everything is great. I was worried as my GF bought me the game without asking, and the whole Nvidia thing with the game had me worried. But, it's working fine. Not as high FPS as I'd expect for the type of game/graphics, but well above minimum required (dips to 50 sometimes) with all settings turned up.

Haven't had a chance to try bfbc2

I spent some time with this driver and got it running very well, if your system has some issues, this driver will reveal it, which is were the instability is coming from.

That could be possible
...... This isn't on my sig rig, it's on another X58 mobo and i7 combination running and SLI of GTX260's.

It's an MSI X58 Pro and C0 i7 920 clocked to 3.4ghz. The GTX260's are default speeds. I've run OCCT Linpack test for 2 hours with these BIOS settings so it should be stable for more than 15 min of gaming. I have no issues when I run the 266.58 driver either, playing BulletStorm or Dead Space for an hour or more.......or it could have been a fluke. I'll be trying the released version when it is available.

This crash, where the screen froze and locked the system, in BulletStorm only happened once, right after I upgraded the driver. That seems to suggest that the driver had something to do with it.

sounds school boyish but was the last driver completely unninstalled? some ppl use driver sweeper to get rid of them completely
I have not noticed any crashes in games so far that I play. But, I have noticed a few times since updating to the beta drivers that when I am just sitting on my desktop, it will go from 2D clocks to 3D clocks sometimes. I can be sitting there doing nothing and my GPU's will jump up around 8-10C. Only reason I noticed that is because I have my Afterburner set for 1C=1% fan speed and when I was just on the desktop doing nothing, I could tell the fans got louder for a bit. Then I would check the graphs in Afterburner and saw that they did in fact jump from 2D to 3D clocks every now and then. Doesn't happen a lot though.

GPU's are at stock speed right now also and using latest version of Afterburner.
