Microsoft “OneAppâ€, possible app store for Zune HD?

Whilst attention has shifted towards Windows 7 and Office 2010 for the time being, Microsoft’s other major product launch up for this holiday season, the Zune HD, is always at the back of our heads. On one hand, the unceremonious announcement of the Zune HD late May helped confirm many of the rumored technical specifications of the device, but at the same time there is still a lining of mystery over how its browser works and what other capabilities the device may have.

A trademark application by Microsoft early last week could be an indication of what more the Zune HD might do, applications.
Trademark application 77775625 for the trademark “ONEAPPâ€, or alternatively pseudo-marked “One Applicationâ€, is classified as a trademark for “online retail store services facilitating the download of computer software for use on mobile phones, media players and other portable electronic devicesâ€.
Furthermore, a separate classification describes,
computer software for allowing mobile device users to send messages, make payments and access and play music, games and videos on mobile devices; computer software platforms for developing mobile applications; computer software, namely, software development tools for the creation of mobile applications; computer software for running retail store site for purchase and download of mobile applications over wireless networks
Of course all of this is assuming the mention of “media players†is intentional, but considering the Zune has always been a Windows CE device under heavy disguise, it’s not entirely far-fetched either. Certainly if XNA games is any indication already, then these devices are perfectly capable of running practical applications.

What’s even more interesting is the actual word, “OneAppâ€, which definitely gives the impression that the applications are somehow universal across classes of devices. It’s no secret that the Windows Mobile 7 team is collaborating with the Zune team. Write-once apps that works on both Windows Mobile and Zune? Wouldn’t that be nice.
Source

Bolded text stood out to me. If Microsoft pulls this off, they could have a much needed boost to both Zune and Windows Mobile popularity simultaneously.

Zune HD 16/32 GB Sept. 8th

Starting $249-280

New rumors have emerged regarding some final details of the Zune HD. According to an anonymous source the devices will be released Sept. 8 this fall. The source also indicated storage capacities will be offered in 16 & 32 GB. Price has not been announced, however a separate anonymous source reported to neowin that the 16 GB version will sell for around $249-280 although the final decision has not yet been made by Microsoft. Based on current iPod Touch pricing, the 32 GB version of Zune HD could cost an additional $100.
Hopefully there is a 64GB model or i might have a hard time parting with my 120GB zune.

hmm, it's it's in the same price range of the iPod touch...

I like it, maybe I'll get it
but...

What are the differences between this device and the 2G iTouch?

Not a whole lot has been confirmed software wise, except that it is a modified build of Windows CE (Zune GUI). It will have a Internet Browser based off of a custom build of IE as well.

The big deal is that it includes the nVidia Tegra (google it) which is a very good portable 3D chipset.

Isn't this supposed to use a haxxed version of IE6 for its browser, potentially making YouTube surfing impossible?

And as such, won't the EU force Microsoft to not include a browser on the Zune?

Anyone know of a Firefox for Zune in the works?

No it's not based off of IE6.
