Sad news guys. At least for those of us running fairly recent hardware and like to have sensor monitoring support for voltages/temps/fans. A bit of clarification first, since the headline from Phoronix is a bit sensationalistic. There is a working IT87 driver in the Linux kernel, only that it's freaking ancient and it has 0 support for new hardware. Some time ago a helpful chap forked the driver and started working on it from github and it works rather well for new hardware, and the guy was really cool about patching the driver for new or unsupported boards. However, it seems he is now fed up and is removing the driver from github. So grab yourself a copy and store it safely.
