I like it, a couple friends whom i'll probably never see their homes have showed them to me using street view.

I consider my house pretty rural but it's somehow on streetview.

As far as privacy goes, yeah i can understand celebrities and wealthy folk turning it down but for the general individual it doesn't seem like a problem.

I find street view really handy. It's also fun to cruise around areas you grew up/lived at for the memories!

They are images from public roads, things anyone can see, it's just online now, what's the big deal?

I am happy to live on a private street. Several of us contacted Google to "inform" them they trespassed (they were too dumb to actually read the sign?). All of the data was taken down...

A lot of the comments that were removed were very ignorant and unacceptable. Please refrain from making such comments in the future. You have all been warned from this point on.

I'm not surprised at all. Considering all of the problems that Google has caused with Streetview intentionally, or unintentionally. Proving intent, is the hard part. Say what you will, but I really have trust issues with Google after all of this.

Here's a good series of reads on the subject:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=google+streetview+wifi+data+collection

Which seriously flew in the face of their "Don't be Evil" slogan. Sorry, but you can't just assume they are a benevolent giant, with good intent. Typically in history, those proclaiming the loudest their goodness. Are in fact, doing so to distract you from the malevolent intentions/actions they're hiding. It's not always true, but often enough that you should cast a wary eye.

My mommy mother is a marketing executive for a high-end sporting attire company (my favorite team is the Bulls...) and she had the people in charge of personnel security at the firm make Google remove our home from the Google Map view.

Ok? Anyone can request an image to be removed themselves.

Wow. I usually hate the idea of pictures of me and my stuffs but I don't mind this. Of course they flew by my house at 60mph so there are only like 3 pics that you can see my house in and they're all relatively blurry. : )

Satellites can still zoom in from up above in pretty good clarity

Personally, I don't think you have a right to privacy from the outside. The entire earth should at least be mapped by satellite without any blackouts. You can't stop someone from looking down at your house when flying above.

Reminds me of the Streisand effect:

Considering the direction that Striesand's career took after Yentl - she really needs the $50 extra large to keep that dope house going.

Like, by the time the photos are actually posted - my laptop, which was sitting on the back seat of my car, has long been brought into the house. Criminals aren't scoping out Street View, well, unless they can steal a laptop and scam some free WiFi in a driveby. I think it is pretty cool - it helps when going somewhere and getting the lay of the land, and to see what destination buildings look like.

Google Earth is cool because I was able to verify that the planter and sidewalk I built in the backyard was "square" to the fenceline.

The dude I work with doesn't like it, because the day they drove down his street, his wife was gardening, so all you see is her nasty super-sized butt.

Of course, but with Street View you can, on some of the pics, get a good look into someones house. That is why Google put in the option to have your house removed from it.

Fitting quote No. 1:

Different countries have different views of privacy. I could care less if they take a picture from the street or sky of where I live but thats just me.

BTW Neck-beards ftw.

I can see your butt hurting from Canada. Might want to get that checked out.
