ivy bridge build price range?

What would a high end ivy bridge build (CPU,mobo, ram) go for? I assume a good chip will fetch at least $1000, but would like some price estimations.

More than 3 times the cost of a 2600k? If that's true then I imagine those chips will be pretty scary (not sarcastic btw)

Im hoping as its going to be their mainstream linup that they will fall somewhere around the price of a 2600k... With the development of the new transistors and all (not to mention the performance/power draw they will bring) I would find it hard to see it priced any less, but AMD and their BD may have something to say about how low it is priced. Id BD continues to fail (and im not sure I can see it any other way) then intel will not have as much incentive to price it competitively.

It's going to cost pretty much what a high end Sandy build costs, probably a bit more more on release.

There's no way a Ivy chip is going to be $1000
. It's a "mainstream" chip, so it should be around the same price as SB. $1000 is usually the price of the flagship enthusiast chip (SB-E).

Hi,

Really hoping the AMD enthusiats can get first release BD up and running
the way they were hoping for.

Or maybe a 2nd edition that they needed fine tuning with and rushed out to
quickly to compete with the 25-2600K.
Doesn't look good

Was waiting for Ivy and if no competition Intel's free to roam when it comes
to Ivy pricing because of it.

I think I saw pricing on it last week.
Should be 3 I think one was around like 300, one at 600, and one at 1000.
and the 600 was still a lot faster than the 2600k.
I wish I remembered where I saw that article.
But yea, there will be a new flagship at 1000$ but still 2 others at doable prices.

Not locked into the Ivy and waiting to see how the 2600-E setup
is going to perform performance and cost wise.

The Pci-e lane config looking at with them has me wondering also.
16x-8x.
Also Pcie-3 and the cards it brings to the table.

Just want something to carry thru 2 gens and stay current as to cpu power
and vid performance as can't play catch-up as to cost.

We have more hardware power than software can keep up with already

the x79 will probably be $1000. it was pretty much consistent. spent $1000 on the mainstream E8400 setup. and about the same with the i7 920. the SB was also the same (2500k)

im just praying that microcenter has a combo deal on a 6 or 8 core ivy bridge...

dont see a paint in the 4 core...why would i sidegrade quad to quad..

isnt the sb-e going to be very similar in performance to the 980x-990x?

Hi,

From my research the 2500-2600k are a little faster than the 980x-990x
until HT-6 core- comes into play.

The E version 15 to 20% faster than both.
But don't like there pci-e lane configuration.

Won't know until there released.

Build a sandy bridge system and add 2% and thats the price for an Ivy Bridge Rig.

Chips and boards will mimic sandy bridge's prices.

That's for Sandy Bridge-E my friend

Hi,

If can wait for Ivy, think the best way to do it would be wait until chip is released and then get a dedicated board exclusively for it.

Not a previos gen board that, (Oh by the way) will also take that chip.

That way can natively take advantage of all the upgrades and tech built for
it.

So Sandy Bridge-E will be priced high and Ivy Bridge will be mainstream?

Hi,

Although cost is going to depend on which version of Ivy your going for

So when is Ivy Bridge due for release? Sandy Bridge-E is not for me

Nice thing is, that if can run 4.0+ with our 9xx chips, not going to
be bottlenecked at all and can play the waiting game.

At 4.0+ and good cards can handle anything out there as to software.

Just wait for the high end stuff to release and sort out all the problems that are
always associated to this hardware.

Or can play the Bling thing.

As to release on Ivy talking 5 to six months.

I would not expect the fastest Ivy to cost more than 330-350 USD upon release.
