Yeah, so far I've practiced with that exact blade on some old P4's that were just sitting here and have been for 2+ years. (If they've been there that long I figure why not?) and a working Celeron System is my testbed to see if the two Celerons I've had are successful, first Celeron I did had horribly dried paste that I couldn't remove, but it POSTED fine and entered the BIOS fine. I'm going to do the other one the day I do my 3570k to get my confidence up...

Thanks for the offer on the blade btw, but that would NEVER get through customs and I don't really need it as I've got one that works fine. Thankyou though +rep for being kind and offering.

I see you're also rocking the same board as me... What revision is it and what BIOS are you on? I can't seem to pull much speed from my Samsung memory with this board but I guess it's never been tested in anything else..

EDIT: I really hope that the IHS comes off easily.. I'm kind of scared of getting halfway and wanting to stop. I guess it'd still run fine as long as I don't dent it or anything with it half off. (Still half sealed) or if I dent the CPU... The worst case would be if I nicked the PCB of actual cores itself and either got a working 1, 2 or 3 core of a damaged IMC that can only run single channel.. That means I'd have a *spare* 8GB set of this RAM and less performance. If that's the case I might even sell it, if I destroy it I'd probably be able to convince my grandmother/auntie to replace it and say that I dropped it or something

As dodgy as that is... It'd work lol

EDIT2: I'll have to ask what type of blade that is...? Incase my blade is too thick.

using F15 bios now, works ok so far..had problems when i just bought it tho, the F5 bios,
not sure anymore what others i used, think it was F8 and F11..

get a pic in your head, where the die is etc..look for some pictures online..
and i said this before,

the box cutter i used is very thick compared to the razor blade pic i showed you,
which i dont really like, because it bents easy..

the pentiums we practice on, had the adhesive a little outside the ihs,
making it harder to get in between ihs pcb too, and yea, the tim is very old so..

my kiddo doing a corner of the pentium last weekend,
look at the end if the vid, if you cut through less then that in a corner, you should be fine,
not hitting die or anything

yea, it prolly woulnt get past custom..o well..
its a razor blade, used with a holder like this,

old fashion, my stepfather used to have one..lol

I know the ivies are a fair bit bigger then the Celeron that I did,
I'm using bios F17a I think... It's really good for the RAM!

after we took of the soldered ihs also ..lol

didnt use that blade you see to delid, we put a few between ihs/pcb
when we tried to get the soldered ihs off

the solder we could just scrape of, most of it, with that blade later on..
but that was just for fun, just to see if we could do it,
wouldnt tell/advice anyone to try get a soldered ihs off ..lol

My F17a beta is fine.. It's really stable compared to F5 and F6 for me. Pressing F1 and going to the "Mouse Mode" as I call it.. Well going into the memory menu there would just crash the BIOS which was really bad.

I'll definetly be keeping that 3570k photo for reference though, I knew it wasn't a square shaped CPU (under the IHS) like the Celeron/P4's. My new problem is cleaning the CPU die itself. Would metho be OK? Thankyou for the picture +rep

im using it to clean die, pcb, ihs etc..
did work on the last bits of adhesive too, like feniks said, let it soak for a while,
if you use just a bit on a paper towl , or something like it,
you can see it evaporate almost instantly..

looking for a way to solve the adhesive, without using blades etc,
someone suggested Nail Polish Remover, not sure what it will do to the pcb tho,
little project next time if my kids are here, my ex has Nail Polish Remover,
my kids will borrow it from her .. hehe...

I've actually got some here... I have no way to test longentivity of the CPU though, I think I'll just scratch it off with my nails or try acetone as there's heaps of that in the shed. Also what do you guys mean about "soaking" it in it? The entire CPU?

I think the guy who "Nicked" the PCB is too scared to post photos (I've seen one) because it's a real shame and kind of an embarassment.. I dunno,

nails is good, and a credit card to scrape it off works too,
i think soaking means, using a q-tip or paper towl to put some/a little on the adhesive,
leave it on there for a while, then clean it..

let me try first with the aceton and nail polish remover,
not sure if it harms the pcb also..
but spiritus works for sure for the other cleaning, always used it,
never had any problem..

Okay awesome, like I've said about 10x methylated spirits is good for using on the core/under the IHS?

Using the same settings right now. 4.5Ghz @ 1.25v but with ~10c difference in temps across all cores. I'll definitely for a higher OC later. Before my temps were around 65-70c while folding for the same settings, but core #2 was ~10-15c higher than the rest of the cores.

Ah yes, so core #2 is fixed now too? I get a core that's 15c higher then the rest too and that limits me. While it's sitting at ~85c the others are at something like 78, 73 and 79.
That is a nice drop, what paste did you use?

i had the same, 10-15C difference between hottest and coolest core, before delid,
after delid the difference was about 6C..it should improve

I plan to use MX-2 for a tempoary fix.. I'll be using some Coolabs pro/ultra respectively on the core and IHS when I get the cash. Going to try and split it with someone too, I may even convince a couple of people

should be enough in 1 seringe , to do at least 3 chips with..

Yes the delid definitely fixed this. I'm using Thermalright Chill Factor 3, pretty good stuff.

looks like you dont need to delid,(or did you?)
i couldnt even run prime or ibt at 4.5ghz, without hitting 105C within seconds..
4-6C is normal difference between hottest/coolest cores..
