It is the final weekend of June, 2010, and here we are prospecting for gold again. Today's review sample is the Kingwin Lazer 1000W, the most powerful in a series of four Kingwin models that promise 80 Plus Gold level efficiency at modest prices. The last time I looked at Kingwin, it was way back in the latter months of 2009 when I load tested the 80 Plus Bronze Lazer 1000 watt unit. We'll have to find out what's changed to bring the line up from Bronze to Gold, and we will. Oh yes... we will. But first, we're going to look at a bunch of box and product pictures, as we always do.

Obviously you didn't read; but this Kingwin unit performed well, and everything stayed within spec.

It's Hot-box testing was a bit of a disappointment, though it's still not a terrible unit.

and both the psu's i listed are still better for same price point.

Kingwin: $225 - 3 year warranty
Jonnyguru Review: 8.5

enermax galaxy 1250w: $239.99 after rebate - 5 year warranty

I would argue that the new corsair power supplies coming out will soon be the best PSU on the market bar none.

I sure most of there psus is not that good, tho I have seen a few and even read about them doing very well for there price. Tho I would never spend more then 150 on a PSU.

The new ones...built on the same platform as his Seasonic X-series unit?

Dangit, I thought this was a 1000W Laser

Still, don't think I'd trust a kingwin. It might perform well, but I remember the guy who had one catch his PC on fire. Kingwin just doesn't seem reliable, whatever the performance

Kingwin is okay. They aren't bad. And you can do a lot worse.

They're smart to take out a certain aesthetic niche in the market because they know they can't compete with Enermax and Corsair in the price/performance realm. However, they offer a certain look that some users may like. If your case happens to have a blue color scheme and you like modular led cables, the Kingwin Lazer series is a safe buy.

People wanting to squeeze out the max performance per dollar aren't going to buy these. (unless they're on sale of course) But some people also care about how a PSU looks, and in that case, the Kingwins may look more appetizing than offerings from Antec and Corsair for example.

hmm
i have looked at these PSUs for a long time, and every1 says 'kingwin suck'
but this LAZER looks ok, its modular, 80 plus, and glows blue, and has a ton of connections!
should this be in my next build? (2011)
