[Joystiq]Capcom Unfazed by Street Fighter Movie Failure

Though you would think that the critical obliteration of a major motion picture based on a gaming franchise would cause concern for said franchise's progenitor, Capcom seems to be unaffected by the poor reception of the recently released film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. In response to the movie's harsh scrutiny, Capcom communications head Chris Kramer simply replied, "Critics were unkind to the first Street Fighter movie as well, but that film has been ridiculously profitable for Capcom over the last decade." Sadly, that success came at the cost of the life of our beloved Raúl Juliá. Was it worth it, Capcom?

Kramer explained that from this point on, Capcom will be adopting the cinematic strategies of Marvel Comics, whose heavily branded, co-produced films have helped revitalize sales of its ink-and-paper offerings. If the company is following Marvel's cinematic example, we sure hope Legend of Chun-Li is its rare, Elektra-esque misstep, and that future titles (Clock Tower and Lost Planet adaptations are currently in development) will be of a more favorable, Spider-Man 2-esque caliber.

When I saw the trailer for this I was like, omg *** has hollywood done, again! They could have at least had the decency to use someone like Zhang Zi Yi as Chun-Li but then again, with Zhang's attitude she would've threw the script back at the director's face and tell him to go **** himself. Hollywood should have never made this a live-action movie but instead take the Resident Evil Degeneration route and use CG.
I wouldn't call the movie a failure, it's number 9 in the box office this weekend and in the big scheme of movies that's not half bad.
Was anyone surprised really....

Not sure how it's making them alot of money as it's tanked at the box office.

Theatrical Release:Feb 27, 2009 WorldWide
Box Office: $4,721,110

Consensus: The combination of a shallow plot and miscast performers renders Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li a perfectly forgettable video game adaptation.

I think this is my favorite comment so far about that movie, pretty much sums up what I was thinking. "If you thought they couldn't possibly make a Street Fighter movie that was worse than the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme camp-fest, you'll be unpleasantly surprised."
^Yeah, but Raul Julia made one hell of an M. Bison.
What do you expect when that game is past its prime? Yes a new one has been released and it has sold, but it's not like it was back in the day when Street Fighter was a really big thing at home and in the arcades.

*shrug*

Bad timing.
I went to go see it last Friday with my friends. I'm a mild Street Fighter fan but my friends are HUGE Street Fighter fans. We went in expecting it to be terrible/the worst movie evar, but we left strangely content. It wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. But...it still wasn't all that great. But it definitely was not nearly as bad as the Van Damme movie lawl
I saw this movie, and im a street fighter fan

and i laughed my butt off, it was ok at best. but since when did balrog have a gun/bazooka?
I've been looking forward to this movie for so long. I'm going to see it tonight. I love bad movies more than good movies.

Same thing with the street fighter movie, its a little bit above avg on a movie scale. The one with van damm was....lame, and freaking cheesy, love zangief though LOLz.

Fighting movies suck. Unless Jet Li or Jackie Chan are like super powered. I dont care about a bunch of ******ed street fighters duking it out. ive seen better college humor videos than that movie.

ya the super mario movie was pretty bad but u could at least mock it while watching it.

i remember one Sci-fi original movie "Snakehead Terror" which was mind numbingly bad.
The plot was about those fish which could limp around on land with their fins, that got mutated by human growth hormone dumped in the lake (the hormone was dispensed into the lake from a red plastic 5 gallon gas tank with a piece of printer paper taped to the side with the words human growth hormone printed on it).
the fish proceed to limp around and bite ankles in their mutated wrath. it was too painful to watch
