According to a reader tip, Target stores are receiving a brand new PS3 SKU. The DPCI item number for the new product is 207-23-0009 and it will be available on March 29, a few days after the end of Game Developer's Conference.

The new SKU, confirmed by our tipster's photo, bundles the now-standard 80 GB console and two Greatest Hits games: MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man. Those that have managed to keep track of the various SKUs will find this package awfully similar to a bundle launched in Europe in 2007. Heck, all it does is add Resistance to the now-defunct MotorStorm bundle.

Unfortunately, our tipster says this new bundle doesn't come with a price drop. The SKU will retail for $399, the same price as the current low-end PS3. Yes, the addition of two free games makes it a better value, but this bundle can't replace the "price drop" analysts have been predicting (and publishers have been begging for). Either this is a Target-specific bundle, or this will be one of the most unexciting PS3 announcements to date.

2 PS3 classic game = $60
Would it not have just been better to knock it off the overall price and not include the games?

What's the backwards compatibility status of this model? Is it different from the standalone 80GB?

Probably the same as the current 80gb. Non-existent.

Yeesh, that sucks. I'm so glad I got the one bundled with MGS4.

Darn I got all excited thinking there were some hardware updates. Die shrinks get me wet.

Well I don't exactly see those games selling significant numbers of copies anymore now that they're both awaiting sequels. Just a tricky way to get rid of stock. Still, it's not a bad deal.

Awaiting sequels? The sequels to both of those games have been out for months lol.

Bundled games are excess stock, so the price wouldn't drop if they took out the games.

Lol I can understand wanting to get rid of excess stock but why not months and months ago when these titles were still moving numerous units? I mean like BEFORE their sequels came out maybe, geez...

Now I see how my damn PS3 died before my original Xbox 360 did, which shocks the living hell out of others.

The 360 has seen its fair share of completely random bundled games, such as some weird Spiderman game, it's current Sega Tennis game (yipee!). Awhile ago you could get Forza 2 which is actually a great game, but most of the time bundles are either Overstock they need to clear out or Stock they need to artificially inflate it's sales numbers for various reasons. Forza 2 is at 4.4m units sold according to VGChartz, so when it comes time to go to the investors for $$$ to make Forza 3, it wont be hard to make it look like a good idea, despite the fact Forza 2 only sold 4.4m copies because it was bundled with the 360 for awhile.

haha, these two games were bundled here with the 60GB 2 years ago
The current middleeast bundle of Uncharted+R&C seems better IMO than R1 & Motostorm
