Just bought a nikon d700 with a 24-70mm lens. Shifted from film photography finally. As i had a couple of great nikon lenses, thought i shud transition to a full frame DSLR. Now, my PC's in my sig. Do i need to add two more of those dominator sticks? Will they impair my overclock? Rig's watercooled to 3.4ghz. Do i really need 2 more gb of ram?

D700 - nice! You went all out, that is a fine camera. With Vista, 2GB of memory and photo editing software, you will probably want more memory. 4 sticks will require a little more voltage (but should be fine), so if you can get a 2 x 2GB kit it would be best.

I've used into 6GB with Lightroom and Photoshop open. More is better, and at the current price of RAM, why not?
Going from 2 - 4GB in Vista x64 you will see quite a good performance improvement by increasing the amount of RAM. The extra 2GB will also benefit your photography editing softwares performance especially if your using the likes of Photoshop for rendering large images or batch processing multiple files etc.
thanx for tellin me bout ur 6gb mootsfox. Now im thinkin why not 8gb
So, 4 vs 8? 4 x 2gb? or 4 x 1gb?

I'm currently running 4GB on vista 64bit and do quite a bit of the same work. I started off with 2GB and it simply didn't cut it, 4GB is definitely a needed improvement. That said, I often find myself being bottle necked by my ram even with 4GB. If I didn't have a new system coming in the mail right now with 12GB of ram I'd likely upgrade my current rig to 8GB. Ram is pretty cheap right now and a 6GB increase will be well worth any minor effect it may have on your overclock

lol, we're such a unique photography forum

I'd have to agree with everyone, since ram is so cheap.... but that's one hell of a setup you have.

I use two of these 2 x 2GB kits:

Or you can just get your Dominators again, but at almost twice the cost.
