I just sold my Q6600 B3 for $130 US on ebay and I then bought a sealed E0 Q9550 on ebay for $240 US shipped. Will I notice a huge performance increase? This is my first CPU upgrade since 2007!

yeah , you will notice some increase in performance , most in rendering speed than gaming fps
When I went from my Q6600 -> 9450 @ 4GHz the diff was massive and still is on par with my i7 920 @ 4.3GHz . dollar for dollar a great great investment.
I went from a Q6600 to an E8500 and then to a Q9550 and then a Q9650. The 9550 was definitely a step up, but I had issues overclocking with my 780i so I went with the Q9650 a little bit later.
You really got a great price for your Q6600. The Q9550 will definitely be killer!
I think you will find the higher FSB needed for the Q9550 really pays off, especially when overclocking. Your RAM throughput will get a healthy speed increase because of this. You'll be impressed.
