Just built my first PC, and I need some help.

Alright guys I got the PC up and running nao (using it to type this). Before you guys start asking for benchmarks and stuff, I need help with something. I installed all driver and software. Also setup the Raid0 with the 320gb drives. But in my pc it shows the raid0 drive as 580gb, i thought it would show less than that because raid0 uses half of the total capacity? Also, my 1tb drive won't show up under My Computer, but it shows up under Device Manager. I don't know what else to do. I tried many times going into BIOS and looking for a solution. It shows up just fine in BIOS but not in My Computer so I can't transfer any of my media into it from my external drive.

Plz halp.

on the accual harddrives it should say how to do that or what config u need to put the pins to do it
Sorry how exactly would I go about doing that? And what is "accualy"? Do I set that in the BIOS or in Vista?

Thanks for the quick reply.
sorry its late there should be a picture on the harddrive to show u where to put the pins which are probly on the back by the power plugin should look something like master- ::l: reset- l:::
Have you formatted your 1TB drive (i.e. is it brand new and you just plugged it into your PC)?
Ok I will try that. I'm going to shut down real quick and give it a go.

There's your problem dude, format the drive and then it should show up in My Computer

I wouldn't really be worried about your RAID problem...

Is there a way to format it from Vista? I usually go to My Computer and right-click on the drive but it's not there.

So if I format it, I wouldnt have to take it out the case and make it a slave?

I'm not an expert on raid, but I know that raid 0 combines the drives to increases performance, raid 1 essentially clones the drive or drives on the go.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

Edit, beware if one drive fails in raid 0 then all the data is lost.

When I find the drive in there, I only get the options to Uninstall, Disable or Update Driver Software. No Format option :/

accskyman, I am aware of that. All programs and games installed in the Raid0 set are all backed up on my external 320gb drive.

format it with a program from bios. This happened to me before but i wasnt trying to do raid, i was just trying to reformat. What you do is download a program called "Killdisk" and then burn it to a cd or dvd. Keep in mind you will need a program such as "Poweriso" in order to burn the program because it is in an iso format. One you have burned the program, boot from the optical drive and the program should start up. Then go to the option where it says reformat or it will say killdisk, you should be able to get it from there. Then select the drive you want to format (the 1tb) and select format. Use the fast option because you really have no need for the slow one. Then from there you shold be good to go.

Or get a burning program such as nero or equivalent that burns .iso files....

Another option to this is plug the drive into another computer with Windows already on it; it should show up in My Computer, and from there it's right click and format

Well I tried KillDisk and it didn't work. Took a while because there is nothing that says "format disk". Also, it was going to take days to format the drive. I selected the simple one but it was still going to take forever. I think what I need to do is just go out and buy the jumpers and set the raid drives as master and the 1tb as slave. I'll be back and update later.
I an not completely sure this works, but try the following:

Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Create and format hard disk partitions (under administrative tools). This feature of vista is useful for shrinking, expanding creating and deleting partitions as well as formatting. I believe drives should show up regardless of the file system established on them. Once in the utility, find you disk and format it to NTFS. It should now show up in My Computer.
"You may need to assign the drive a letter. Open "Computer Management" and then "Disk Management" You should see your 1TB drive, but most likely will not have a drive letter assigned."

A friend of mine told me to do this on another forum. Worked perfectly and did not have to set drives as slave.

Thanks for the help guys!
