Even an X6800 will bottleneck a 7950GT. Nothing you can do really, your max FPS will just be limited so run the game settings as high as you can.

How did i fix what? The card is always waiting for the CPU - overclocking it helped a bit but its still the strongest thing in my system. I hope that when my new ram turns up i can get a decent overclock out of it, even though its a "Cabbage"
what about upgrading to 4400+ or some thing, i saw a couple of them left in stock, would they help with the 7950

then what is the point of building a c2d with 8800 video card, if it will bottleneck?

A CPU Bottleneck usually just holds back the max FPS. You can run certain games at any settings whether its 640x480 or 2500x1600 and you'll still get FPS, thats bottleneck. If you have a better CPU, the max FPS will be higher so there is less of a bottleneck.

Because you can turn up the graphics settings (ie AA/AF) because that is all done on the GPU - no fps loss, but better quality.

3700's overclock like MAD if you get the right one - some hit 3 GHz on air (Stock - 2.2 GHz, remember!)

A 4400 is dual core, so its actually two 3-somethings strapped together - the fastest single core AMD non-fx CPU is the 4000, but a 3700 is a better bet because they overclock a LOT

If your going to overclock, then get an Opty, specifically a 165 as its dual core, and you can still get 3 GHz out of it!
It will be bottlenecked but not by much especially on high resolutions and/or graphics intensive games. There isn't much you can really do besides buy a new processor but then you might need a new motherboard/ram etc...
Even upgrading won't see much of a difference as you should be able to run every game out right now with that setup with the settings turned all the way up.

not neccesarily - with his setup he could just drop an Opty 165 in!

i will look in to it. do you play any games? how are your fps?

ps check my specs in my sig
well i wouldnt have bought a 7950GT if i didn't play games
I dont play many games other than LFS atm, and i prefer high AA/AF to FPS...

Its a bloody quick card, though, quicker than the 7900GT, and overclocks bloody brilliantly, too!

i play call of duty 2, and i want to get the best performace out of it

and why would i overclock it more? if it bottlenecks with my cpu

wouldn't i lower the clock speeds then? haha

well if its bottlenecked now, and your CPU is the thing limiting your FPS - you can turn up eye-candy such as AA/AF with no performance hit - of course you cant go max AA/AF, but of course you can overclock and do a bit more than stock, making it much nicer looking

pointless buyin a 4400+. OC ure CPU as far as u can. Also turn up ure graphics, so that ure graphics card takes more load until it becomes the bottleneck.
