lap it anyway before you install it, may as well
What Tator said. If it's flat, leave it alone as those machining marks are usually nothing to lose sleep over.
Don't lap it. I believe someone around these forums lapped their HK and actually saw an increase in temps due to the lapping job.

nice, mine is on its way cannot wait! Going to be my first loop!
I don't know if lapping it will be worth it - the difference is marginal at at most probably 1C due to the convex shape of the i7 IHS. If it's not satisfactory (i.e. 5C from where it should be), and there's nothing else wrong with your loop, I would then look into maybe lapping it or getting a new replacement block.

DO NOT LAP, the HK 3.0 was designed with a curvature on the bottom to ensure proper spreading of the thermal material. If you lap it you will most likely see an increase in temps.

Also, if you are super hardcore, and really like lapping...lap the razor blade so "You can lap while you lap dawg!"

Actually I saw a thread where a member lapped his hk and got worse temps after he did.

That being said Dont lap it

The HK3.0 has a purposely engineered, built-in bow to increase pressure on the die. Lapping a pre-bowed block like the HK3.0 is a BAD, BAD idea.

lapping a HK is not such a great idea, They come flat as a razor blade and almost as mirror like as a mirror
, them marks are nothing to worry about, their just machining marks which wont effect nothing hehe, if it makes u feel any better I actually have them on both my Heatkillers

thanks for the input guys- My cpu is already lapped fyi. I will check the heatkiller with a blade and post a picture. I have to swap out computers this morning so I can still get on the internet and then drink some coffee, then I will get started.
DO NOT LAP IT! HK is designed how it is for a reason.

well razor test shows a slight hump in the middle of the HK.
I will assume this it to put more pressure in the middle of the cpu die.
While I am a bit dissapointed in the finish on the HK 3.0- I think the convex shape is purpose made, and so i will not be lapping it at this time.

Thanks for all the help guys-
